Pros: Great photo prints, borderless pics, takes various cards
Cons: Needs card adapters, printing borderless a bit confusing
The Bottom Line: Even with the few problems, I still highly recommend this printer. I love the results and couldn't do without it.

| jennwildcat's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX Ink-jet Printer |
I got this printer as a Christmas gift and although I haven't used it much, I really do love it. Ink for inkjets is slightly expensive, so I try to use it sparingly. I just purchased a color and black cartridge from Staples and they cost approx. $45 for the two.
The printer is great. It does borderless prints, but it takes a little while to figure out how to get it to print them. The software requires you to choose certain settings, there isn't an "easy" way to do it, unfortunately. You can print borderless photos in various sizes: 8x10, 5x7, 4x6, and 8.5x11 (letter size.)
The printer itself offers 2880 x 720 DPI using the Micro Piezo technology.
In the box, you get the printer, a CD containing printer drivers and Epson software film factory, and ArcSoft PhotoImpression. There is also a paper roll holder included to use a roll of photo paper to print on.
The built-in card slot takes CompactFlash types I and II, Memory Sticks, Micro Drives, and smart media, but you are required to have an adapter to use them. You can print without a printer using the card slot, if you wish. There is an optional preview monitor you can buy which I believe is about $100 retail.
The printer comes with a 1 year warranty.
The printer is a bit noisy on startup and sometimes makes a banging type of sound when picking up the paper when first printing.
One that that annoyed me is if I don't use it for two weeks or so, the printhead apparently "dries up" and I have to run several "cleaning" cycles until it is unclogged/undries. You would think a new printer would have some way to "rest" the printhead when the printer if off so that it didn't dry up. According to Epson, it's supposed to do this and "seal" it off to protect this from happening, but it happens to me all the time.
Print quality is great, but I find that the Epson photo paper does the best job. I haven't tried to print on the roll photo paper, but I am looking foward to it.
