Pros: Unit Variety, Better Graphics (no longer "flat terrain"), Reasonable Learning Curve
Cons: Not for the average comp (system requirements are a little steep), Slightly Unbalanced Sides
The Bottom Line: Great game, if your computer can handle it, especially if you are a fan of the series. This was made as a present to you!

| fogman444's Full Review: Command and Conquer: Generals for Windows |
Yes, they'v done it again, another Command and Conquer game to test your army leading abilities. This ones a real winner though, a summery of the new/improved features over the past CC titles would include things like:
1. Completely new and different units (and a different philosophy, modern units this time, see below).
2. Three Sides (past games had two), GLA (Global Liberation Army aka. terrorists), China (the Communist representation), and the good 'ol USA.
3. Greatly improved graphics, no more cartoons, these are the real deal, tanks look like tanks, plus the environment is no longer one big static painting, the trees move and and the ground contour changes. This comes at a price however, the sys requirements have have been up'ed considerably.
4. Nice multiplayer options, though there are still some wrinkles to be smoothed out (ie. the scoring system).
Units
I am personally a fan of the CC titles and this is definitely an improvement. The unit philosophy, as I mentioned above has changed, the developers even stated prior to the release that they were going for something a little more realistic, or modern. The game is no "Real War" but more of the units are in line with current technology. However, as always, there are a few futuristic types to keep things interesting. Plus each side has its own "superweapon", which are also inventive. Every side has its own tech tree, and units to go along. Overall, the new units have good variety and won't get boring too quickly.
Graphics
O' Boy, see that word up there? The graphics have to be the single most important, and radical change made in this version of Command and Conquer versus previous titles in the line. The Graphics are simply amazing. From the tree collapsing under the treads of a tank, to the incredible result of a nuclear bomb being dropped in an enemy base, realism is one word to describe the new changes. No longer are your units and buildings an animated cartoon, nor are your surroundings one big picture. However, all this comes at a price, the system requirements are steep and your average office computer ain't gonna cut it! Here are the MINIMUM requirements as taken from the Electronic Arts c website:
Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP (Windows NT/95 NOT supported)
800 MHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor-- me P4
128 MB RAM -- yes this is minimum. I play on 512MB
8x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
1.8 GB free hard drive space - hope you got a big hard drive
32 MB video card using the Nvidia GeForce2, ATI Radeon 7500 AGP video card, or more recent chipset with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver -- A GeForce 4 will overheat in fifteen minutes without adequate ventilation (ie. leaving your comp open) playing this if that tells you anything
DirectX 8.1 compatible 16-bit sound card
Keyboard; Mouse
Reminder the above are MINIMUM requirements.
Overall, CC Generals is a great game, especially if you are a fan of the series. The high sys requirements exclude some people, but if you can get this on a good comp you will be rewarded, greatly!
