Pros: Fairly easy to set up, good to help kid learn to measure, no batteries required
Cons: Didn't have enough mixes, small parts that get lost easily
The Bottom Line: Son says it isn't very good and boring.

My 9 year old received this as a Christmas gift and was so excited that he would be able to make "potions " and drink them. It took about 20 minutes for Dad to put it together and get it started working. The novelty wore off rather quickly as the mixes depleted too fast. He was only able to make approximately 10 potions. Some of the potions tasted sweet others very sour and one was just plain awful. If you don't follow the recipe your potion will turn black or taste sour! This product includes a cauldron, a stirring wand, a mixing cup, a shaker bottle and six magical mixes, Leeches, knotgrass, lacewing flies, fluxwood, bicorn horn, boomslang skin. They sound kind of nasty tasting if you ask me, but you will be surprised, if you mix them correctly. The one that my son liked the best was called slugs. Him and his sister both enjoyed these and one mix made about 15 slugs. Within a week all the mixes were either gone or didn't have enough to complete a potion. You can purchase more mixes from the order form enclosed with the instructions or at a store that carries them. My son decided that there was no challenge for him in making this so he tossed it in the garbage less then a month after getting it. This toy is meant for 8 to 11 year olds and can stimulate the imagination. Especially if you child loves to pretend to be Harry Potter.
