Pros: portable, easy to use, keeps the kids quiet
Cons: no remote control, only 4 inch viewing screen, no larger screen option
The Bottom Line: It's great for the kids(and most importantly, for the parents while driving). Just be cautious with the kids using it too much. They'll forget you exist.

| ttdsgnr's Full Review: Audiovox VBP1000S VCR |
My Audiovox system is a lifesaver. We purchased ours for our first son as a Christmas gift when he was six years old. Two and a half years later, and it's performed trouble-free.
However,it wasn't what we were lookin for when we initially went shopping. Our first choice was a video system that's installed in our vehicle. Unfortunately, we own a Honda CR-V with a power moonroof. Most installers wouldn't touch it. They said there's no place to install an overhead monitor with a sliding moonroof. Those that would, said that they would have to make a custom beam to mount the monitor. Next, we looked at headrest-mounted monitors. Those couldn't be installed because we have see-through headrest. The only options we had were dash- or sun-visor mounts. Neither of those meant anything to us because our son sits in the back seat- not the front.
After, trying to decide what to do for a few weeks, I came across an ad in a newspaper for the Audiovox Video In A Bag... also known as the the VPB1000S. After looking at a demo model, we purchased one. This thing is great!!! It consists of a video cassette player and 4" monitor ,plus a carrying pouch so you can easily remove it from your car when not in use.
The sound quality from the standard speakers is impressive for the price, and the 4" screen may be small, but the picture is of good quality. In fact, it really impressed us when we went on a recent 1,500 mile road trip. We plugged our Playstation into the VBP's video jacks and had a ball. My son and I played games when it was my wife's turn to drive. Of course, we plugged our headphones into the headphone jacks.
Well, now that you've heard all of the pros to purchasing the VBP1000S, let me share some of the cons. First off, the viewing screen can wash out pretty badly in direct sunlight. Also being LCD screen- like a laptop- it can be easily scratched if not properly maintained. Also not having a TV tuner or a larger screen even as an option is a little disappointing.
The monitor and video cassette player are all one unit. That maybe the answer to its compact size and make it more versatile than the other video units like it, but how do you change the video player if it ever breaks down? Most competitors have the monitor and player separate, but they're considerably heavier. It's all a matter of taste here.
Well, I still think the pros outweigh the cons and believe this to be one of the best purchases I've ever made. I'd recommend it to anyone. It performs beyond our expectations and the price is unbeatable. We like it, and I think you will too. At least you won't hear, "Are we almost there yet?" from the kids anymore.
