Yeah, ain't it fun? Perhaps being a girl is different from the "old days" when Chris and I were kids. Back then, girls were all, demure and... girly, but that was long before "grrl power."
Glad you liked it - both the review and the book!

with everything you've said. It's a wonderful book-- I checked it out from the library on Saturday and finished it Monday (it would have been faster but I have a very active social life) Being a teenaged girl, my reaction wasn't exactly "that's me!" But I enjoyed it very much and took some inspiration from it... I renewed my goal to be a young adult author and made some decisions on what exactly I'm going to write. Chris Crutcher is to YA fiction what Michael Jordan was to basketball--he gave us a whole new standard of comparison. No young adult book is truly great until it passes the Crutcher test: side-splittingly funny, breathtakingly wise and heartbreakingly poignant, all rolled into one. Just my two cents :)

I agree & am wondering if my 62 year old father might enjoy this (He grew up in the 50s)... Hmmm.
Nice job!
