Rooster wrangling (Reply to this comment)
by lizkauai
Feral fowl are common in the rural areas and even some of the more populated areas of Kauai. Unlike domestic chickens familiar to US farms, these birds can fly and are more like pheasants than chickens. One way to minimize off-hour crowing is to keep the lights turned off. A bathroom light appearing in the middle of the night can be a rooster wake-up call indeed! Personally, I have grown insensitive to the sound of roosters but I do have difficulty sleeping in city accommodations where the sounds of elevators and dumpster cleaning and breaking bottles happen often. Aloha!
