Well..in my eyes, there are two types of reviews.. one ya read to decide to see it, and one ya read after ya done seen it.
I tend to write the former, and that means walking on eggshells with a movie like this to not give away any surprises.
Tis a fine line at times. Alas, one cannot please everyone every time.. so one just pleases herself! *cackle*
errr wait.. that didn't sound quite right....

*Still brushing off horrible images after reading your 25th hour review* lol
I have to agree *oh the horror* with the V guy. Your review, while satisfying, didn't REALLY say anything about the movie. lol. Don't get me wrong, that comment is coming from a girl who will review blurbs in a hot minute. *cough*
Anyway, Is it just me or do these Cary Grant loving squares below not understand the PLAYFULNESS Demme brought to this film. This film stands on its own merit. I've seen the "Audrey" Version and this isn't really anything like it. I cannot tell you how many times I did the old "grab stomach roll on floor" routine during this film. ESPECIALLY that scene were Demme cuts to 'Charlie's' Mother as she walks out of the police station in a dazed stupor (I'm assuming that expression was shock *shrug).
I mean, what was that? That had NO reason to be in the movie! That type of random silliness is what it's all about. Style, style, style.
You've redeemed yourself gal! *smiling* I thought I was going to have to put you on red alert after 25th hour. (yes, I HAD to get that in there . . again).
(Was this comment long enough for you????)

Ahh ok, I misunderstood. Let me pop back into it and see what I can add without giving too many twists away.

So you hadn't seen the original, yet you managed to know what was happening in the film while you were watching it? Well, bravo, but how does that manifest itself into a review. The question isn't whether or not I will know anything about the movie when I watch it. The question is whether I will know anything about the movie by reading your review.

But Marc.. I had NOT seen the original and knew very well what was going on in this one. I loved it...and will likely buy it now.
So there. :p

Hey Doc.
I'm forced to ask what happened here in so many ways. First, and most importantly, five stars? You've gone mad.
Second, assuming I hadn't seen the original I wouldn't have the slightest idea what happens in this movie. Apart, that is, from ideas I can put in one sentence.
Third, Demme, would I expect anything less than something good from him? Ummm... yes.

Personally, I'm glad I saw the new virsion first. I was able to take it on it's own merit.
I *still* need to watch the original, it's sitting right here so I have no excuse... LOL

I Have To Admit (Reply to this comment)

that Grant and Hepburn - either one - make any movie they were in. I don't think I saw the latest version with Wahlburg. If I did it didn't make enough of an impression for me to remember it.

... while I have to admit that the hottie-factor is present here with Mr. Wahlberg this movie just didn't compare to the original for me. It was fun to a certain extent but ...
And yeah, I'm a Hepburn fan through and through.

I think that's the difference.. I never saw the original, so I had a fresh perspective.
I do have it here now and plan to watch it tonight or tomorrow though.

I can't possibly imagine how this could compare to the Cary Grant/Audrey Hepburn original! I'll have to check it out.
