Pros: compact, stable for active workouts
Cons: headphone quality, no rechargeable battery, basic one-way file transfer software, exposed (corrosion prone) USB terminal.
The Bottom Line: Good Value although no real competitors in the 128M space at this pricepoint. Get a real set of headphones.

| skyman-bda's Full Review: Sonic Blue Rio S35 128MB MP3 Player |
After my wife stole my Sony MSNW-7 to use for her workouts, I found myself in need of another device. While I love the sound quality on the Sony I was fed up with their proprietary software and incompatabilites with various operating systems (2000, XP). I was also unwilling to fork out another $300.
So for about half the price, I picked up the last Sonic Rio at the local Best Buy. Unable to wait, I used my trusty Swiss army knife to open it in the parking lot (plastic covering is a bear to open). Was pleasantly surprised to find the device came with a few demo songs! Only later did i find out that file transfer to the device is one-way only so you have to leave the songs on the device.
The software for file transfer is limited. The selection process picks up fields (from the music files) that I found useless eg. genre (not always filled in), and omits fields that I need to sort (ie. date).
Initially listening to the songs i thought they sounded kind of "fuzzy"...then realized the included headphones were junk. oh well, another $20 to get good earpieces.
All-in-all, nice features (FM radio is a bit limited in range) at a moderate price.
