Fireworks is the best software I've been used to do WEB graphics. Designing web graphic does not like designing advertising, poster... It doesn't need very fancy graphics, most site create images only using 256 colors, so Fireworks is great for you to design web related buttons, small images, even the whole site look and feel.

It's slicing tool is also very helpful.

But the HTML exporting tool is not very good. I don't understand why it creates a small image called "shim.gif" and put it everywhere to make your table so complex, and also it's difficult to remove it.

So based on my experience. You can create the site interface in Fireworks, and sliced the each graphic. Then using Dreamweaver to create the table and then insert those images into it. In that way you can also create background images, small buttons in Fireworks.
