The Bottom Line Moshing is fun. These are my favorite songs to mosh to.

My love for mix tapes

In my younger years, I used to record songs off the radio to make mix tapes. It was kind of annoying. I’d have to listen to the radio for a while to get the songs I liked. It wasn’t like I had anything else to do, I was 9. It’s the 21st century now and we have all kinds of cool technology that has helped my mix tape making. Now I can make mix CDs with a burner with virtually any song on it curtosy of Napster. Isn’t technology kick @$$? I hate having to censor my work. I use curse words when I talk, why can’t I use them in my writing?

The Theme For This One

I used to make mix tapes because I listened to pop music and pop music was very single oriented. Now I listen to all types of music, both popular and underground. Recently I’ve been giving my mix tapes themes. Giving a theme to the mix tape makes it more fun. I picked up this idea from another epinions writer named tattooedjedi. The last one I did was the political mix tape. This next mix tape is going to be titled Nick’s F*ck Sh*t Up Mix Tape. Pardon my French. Sometimes I get stressed out. School is usually the main source of my stress. My favorite way to mellow out is a nice one man mosh pit in my room. I can usually only do this when I’m the only one home cause my Mom doesn’t like it when the house shakes. Moshing is also good exercise. I once had an asthma attack from moshing at a show. I didn’t have my inhaler with me. It was no fun. But that’s a story I’ll save for a different time.

Downset - Anger
Downset rock. They are a rapcore band from LA. They combine elements of hip hop and hardcore-punk to make an awesome sound. They were doing rapcore way before Limp Bizkit turned it into a trendy cool TRL thing. Their song “anger” starts out slow and then kicks into a heavy fast song, great for flailing around my room and yelling along with the chorus.

Incubus - New Skin
This song is one of Incubus’ faster more rapcore songs. Ever since I heard it on the radio I’ve loved “New Skin”. This song always gets me bouncing off the walls.

Mudvayne - Dig
I saw this band in concert. They were pretty good. They sound a lot like Slipknot. The only song on their album that I really enjoy is “Dig”. It’s loud, heavy, and angry, everything you want from a good metal song.

Nonpoint - Victim
Nonpoint are a really cool Nu Metal band. Most nu metal bands don’t really stand out, they all sound the same. Nonpoint have that special something that makes them good. “Victim” is my favorite song off of their album Statement. About 5 seconds into the song there’s a massive breakdown.

Slipknot - Sic
There are a lot of trendy slipknot posers at my school. Believe me, I am not one of them. I’m not even a big fan of metal. Sic is just an awesome metal song. It’s one of the few Slipknot songs I actually like. You can tell they have a couple drummers because the drums are blazing fast. Faster than just a double bass pedal. The lead singer of Slipknot, Corey has a very good voice, too bad he can’t write good lyrics. Oh well, you can’t win em all.

System of a Down -Suite Pee
System of a Down are a very original band. I used to like them but then they fell into the whole alternative radio/tour with Metallica sellout trap. Suite pee is awesome. The vocals almost sound like those that would be on a punk song.

Hatebreed - Before Dishonor
I’m not a big fan of hardcore punk. Hatebreed are an okay band, I guess. For some reason “Before Dishonor” stands out from their other songs. It’s a little bit catchier and more musical. I love the little intro with the guy saying “It’s not the blood that you spill that’s gets you what you want, it’s the blood you share, your family, your friends.”

Poison the Well - Nerdy
Poison the well are an awesome emo core band. The emphasis is on the core. Nerdy is their best song. It’s for the most part, a heavy love ballad. But not a love ballad like Poison would sing.

Unloco - Nothing
This song is one the Little Nickey soundtrack. I had never heard of Unloco before but I feel in love with this song. For some reason I never really got in to Unloco. I don’t own any of their CDs of anything. Nothing is just a great nu metal song.

Kittie - Brackish
I like girl bands. But, for the most part, girls bands are usually just a novelty. Kittie aren’t a novelty. They rock hard. They’re also from Canada. Brackish is a great heavy song. The singing is very melodic and the yelling is good.

Deftones - my own summer (shove it)
The Deftones just plain rock. Chino is the man. They’re melodic metal style is awesome. My own summer is my favorite song by them. It fits well in this mix, kinda smoothes out all the super heavy stuff. It’s a pretty angry song. I love Chino’s screams of “shove it, shove it shove it”

Pennywise - Homesick
Metal isn’t the only type of music you can mosh to. Homesick is great. Pennywise play awesome super fast skate punk. You can’t help but make a little one man circle pit in your room. I’m an east coast kid but I still enjoy the circle pits.

Rage Against the Machine - Bulls On Parade
This was the song that introduced me to Rage. I heard it on the radio on day when I was around 10 years old. I thought to myself “this is awesome, I gotta get this CD” It had a parental advisory on it so I couldn’t buy it. My parents had a little rule that said I couldn’t buy CDs with parental advisories. That rule was just lifted a year or so ago. I got a friend to buy it for me. Screw you mom! Bulls of parade is on of Rage’s heavier song. Rage aren’t really a metal band. They’re more of an aggro rock band.

Henry Rollins Band - Liar
The Rollins band rocks. I love Henry, even back in the Black Flag days. Liar starts out slow with Henry doin a little spoken word, then it kicks into a nice heavy and angry song. The Rollins Band combine elements of jazz, metal, and funk.

Sevendust - B*tch
I’m not really a Sevendust fan. I don’t really like Lajon’s voice. B*tch is a good song. It’s pretty heavy, a good head bopper. The breakdowns sometimes get me going.

Nick’s Final Thought

I’m not a big fan of metal and hardcore. I only own about 10 CDs in those genres and 3 of them are by Downset. Heavy music isn’t something I can listen to all the time. It’s more of a mood thing. Some people listen to music to get into a certain mood, I listen to music that fits my mood. That’s why I listen to so many different genres of music, because I have many different moods.
