Children Are Precious Creatures, And Need To Be Treated With Respect!
Mar 10 '01
The Bottom Line Children and their souls are so fragile. Look and read how important it is to be loving, and how so many receive nothing in return.
Last summer, while waiting in the doctor's office, I saw the perfect example of how children should NOT be treated. This darling little boy, with these two miserable people will no doubt have little if any self-esteem. How often does this type of behavior repeat itself. It is difficult enough to raise our own children to feel good. Let me share my story with you, and let's all remember how precious the spirit of a person is:
Last summer, while waiting for my husband at the doctor, I was reading one of the outdated magazines. It seemed like a normal day, people talking to others, some reading, and some just waiting. THEN, it happened.
Two older women arrived with a darling little boy. I would say he was about two years old. One woman appeared to maybe be the great grandmother and the other, probably the grandma. It was hard to say, but there was no mother or father with them. What a darling little boy! He had piercing brown eyes. They were the kind you cannot forget.
Everything seemed normal for about 2 minutes. At that point the child wanted a magazine. When he got out of his seat to get one, the lady we shall refer to as the "grandmother" told him to "get back in your seat". She hit him, and of course he started crying. Obviously this received my attention, so I kept watching and listening. The little boy moved over across from where the two women were sitting and when he wouldn't come back, the grandmother told him, "I am going to lock you in the car". At that moment, I got my pen and paper out and started keeping notes. In a period of not more than ten minutes, he was threatened "I'll throw you down the stairs", "I will let someone kidnap you". At this point I got up and ask the receptionist if something couldn't be done about this situation. She was obviously upset, too, but say no. Then the grandmother looked at the lady and ask "could you give him a shot to make him shut-up" The response was, "I don't talk to children like that and we don't give them shots". All the waiting room as in shock at what they had just seen.
My husband came out of the doctors office, and when I told him, he was bothered, too. However, there was nothing we could do. I thought about calling the doctor's office when I came home, but of course they would not be able to release the woman's name that was there for the appointment, and being so cruel to this child.
Children and self-esteem.....it is sad, but just like this child, there are so many that have no one to make them feel important.
Be kind to each other!
