| maddieslyo's Full Review: Dell Dimension XPS B1000 |
I own three Dells and I think highly of all of them. The B-system is extremely fast and reliable and DELL's service is impeccable. As a testament of Dell's persistence to help the customer, I would call them up at random times of the day and night with various questions about the computer, maintaining a network, and updating the system: each time I was on hold for less than 10 minutes and a service representative answered my questions effectively and promptly.
On a different note, I think one of the keys to enjoying a system fully is to go for the upgrades when it comes to monitor size, speakers, video card, etc. I purchased my DELL in May...it's a 733EB with 128mb RDRAM, a 64mb NVidia GeForce DDR card (which I believe is the top of the line), a 19" P991, (I have some qualms with this monitor, but other alternatives can be purchased), 48x CD-ROM, 32MB NVidia graphics Card, 3COM 56k modem, and Altec Lansing ADA885 speakers, which I defy anyone to tell me there is any better speaker system for computers to be found.
This has got to be one of the fastest home computers I have ever used and is actually faster than many workstations that I have worked with. The one thing that bothers me about the XPS B is the RDRAM that it came with... it delayed the delivery of my computer for over a month but once I got the computer the performance made up for the wait. The computer has been very reliable so far, with no real problems.
You can find a less expensive computer with the same specs as the Dell, but you wont get the quality hardware inside thus you will have more problems and slower speeds. My recommendation is that you should go for the Sony Trinitron 19" or 21" monitor.
You can't go wrong, really with any DELL, but the XPS B's are at the head of their class.
