Dis,

No, I'm not! I never even noticed those well toned biker thighs! It's all about the sport, the strategy, the teamwork, the intrigue, the scenery. OK, and the shorts, but don't tell anybody, it would absolutely ruin my pristine reputation.

Sue,

And we watch ridiculous amounts of the coverage. Geeky, but true. It's addicting, I swear.

Yeah, but you're just watching for glimpses of taut, spandex-clad man-thigh. I know your little Tour de France secret. "Coverage" indeed...

Dis,

Lance, in this house, reigns supreme. The Tour is the one sporting event that we look forward to every year. And we watch ridiculous amounts of the coverage. Geeky, but true. It's addicting, I swear.

Sir Lance, a lot (Reply to this comment)

Sue,

Wow, who knew the Tour de France was such a big deal? Not I. All I knew about Lance was that there's a poster of him on the wall of my local post office, and up until about 5 minutes ago, I never understood why the caption said "4titude."

See, I learn something new every day from you, Sue. Carry on.

Kim,

I wish it was travel destinations! Instead it's more like sit on your couch and watch other people travel destinations. And time travel is most excellent.

So if you do indeed have issues, at least your issues rock. Fiddle on.........

when I got my email alert for this one, I thought it was a "travel destination" or something. I was like "wow, the tour de France AND time traveling, all in one vacation! rock!"

I think I have issues.

I can't even begin forming a reply to your last comment, so riddled with spelling errors and grammatical mistakes is it. Please, next time, run your words through the spell-checker once or twice, hmm?

Thanks…

Beck of the Mountains,

Actually, I think the bike shorts are meant to cut down on chafing

But they really just don't look comfortable, do they? I've seen these morons riding around town in their entire Lance look alike outfit. I must say, they don't look that cool stopped at a stop light, or getting the finger from some bus driver ;)

Lancette,
Seemed a little excessive (not to mention a little chafing)

Actually, I think the bike shorts are meant to cut down on chafing. We'll have to ask trust12345 when he gets back from unicycling across Norway. But that outfit looks like it would take about 15 minutes to wriggle into. I just don't have that kind of time. I'll stick to old t-shirts for my biking.

Jack,

If you want any attention from Mike and myself, I think you know which one you better wind up on.

But what if I want the approval of Chris? Is there no way to please all you people?

By the way, are you really going to watch this and "Manhunter" back-to-back? And, if so, is it going to be on DVD for both -- for it damn better be for "Manhunter", missy!

I am indeed. Will watch Manhunter, write the review, then watch Red Dragon and review it. And I have to watch both on VHS, much to my own dismay, as there is no DVD in the treadmill room.

The nerve of dishonoring this sport by bringing lust into the picture.

Indeed!

You are the champion.
Uh, were you ever in doubt?

No. Just wanted to let you know that I hadn't forgotten.

Marsha,

The more you watch, the more you pick up. It's really a very cool sport.

And you must be kidding. My jersey is camouflage. As, currently, are my nails! And I'm driving that Hummer up to the Alps to get in some training for those killer mountain passes! Now where did I put those bike shorts...........are they under your deck?

I had absolutely no idea that so much strategy and teamwork was involved in this sport. Very interesting stuff, although the jersey part got me a little lost, but I guess that's to be expected (and I'm not fully awake yet, even though it is 2:12pm - go figure!).

Really enjoyed the read, and kudos don't really cut it as far as Lance Armstrong goes. He truly is a miracle man.

And tonight is the last night that the lights will be on, so get your hunter orange jersey out for tomorrow night if you plan on practicing the flat stages with the Hummer. And would you try and miss the dog's little swimming pool this time? We're using it as a coaster now, thanks.

Marsha :)

Jack,

The shades guy is just cover for the fact that he really adored MBFGW. And soon I'll be seeing Red Dragon - wonder which side I'll end up on?

As for cycling, drafting is just, like, so basic. And its called "being on someone's wheel", man. Get with the lingo, dude. And those biking shorts rock. As far as "less is more" in the boob department - I'm once again in awe. Jack brings female anatomy into an all male sporting event. You are the champion.

Paul,

Well, I guess this is technically a movie review.

Hey! See that category up there? Videos and DVDs pal.

But Jeez Louise!

The name is Sue. Sheesh.

Four hours worth of biking footage! I'd almost rather watch My Big Slovenly Greek-Stereotype Wedding Video three times in a row.

Now don't be like that. You might like it.

(No I wouldn't. That was a lie. Such an act might kill me.)

Chicken.

This long and interesting Tour de France review forces me to ask one question: "Who's [this] chick, and where does she get off having that shiny new hat?"

I have no idea, but she is irritating the hell out of me.

Sundogg,

I haven't seen Breaking Away in a long time, and may never have seen it in its entirety. Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh, and those shorts? Lance - good. Midwestern soccer mom - highly questionable.

There was a fun film back in the late 70's called "Breaking Away" about a kid in Indiana who dreamed of being a cyclist - this was long before there was any coverage of cycling events, when those tight black shorts were considered the epitome of geekiness.

If you haven't seen it, you should.

Glenn,

Truth? It always bored me, too. Until I started watching some expanded coverage - the little blips just don't do it justice at all. And Phil and Paul are a riot! A great combination of accurate coverage and sort of gossipy tidbits about the sport. It's fun!

a boring sport. At least it's better than watching soccer, or auto racing. Still, if you like it that much, I must be missing something.

Becky,

Lance is your husband, right?

Nah, he just likes to pretend by riding ridiculous distances on his bike every single day. And that picture is actually the King of the Mountains jersey! No kidding! It's an ugly thing, but with loads of prestige.

And I did watch all four hours, ate it up with a spoon. At least I didn't wear this while I did it:

http://mountaingoat.com/images/laurie_cycling.jpg

Seemed a little excessive (not to mention a little chafing) and I like to save my helmet for when I go outside - that's where I fall down the most ;)

Retire the bike? That's gotta hurt. This is a very good look at the Tour, keeps us going during the off season - enjoy!

Sue - hope you get back on the bike soon!

Sue Armstrong,
Lance is your husband, right? Otherwise, I can't imagine why you would subject yourself to watching four hours of bike racing unless you were suffering from insomnia. ;)

If I were in the Tour de France, I would wear a purple, polka dot jersey just to spite the uppity person wearing this red one:

I love road biking, but have been told by my doc to retire the bike for now until my health gets better. Boy, was I ever mad! :-)

I think this is just what I need until I can recover. At least it will keep me hungry for the sport anyway. Thanks for the very informative review!
