Pros: It is small with a great display screen. Good price $400 on eBay.
Cons: The operation manual, 4 directional operation button for menu selection, still images not sharp.
The Bottom Line: Even in hindsight I cannot recommend another camera over this one, for the price to features ratio -- just do your shopping homework!

| marmar99's Full Review: Sharp Viewcam VL-Z7U Mini DV Digital Camcorder |
I have had this camera for about 2 months.
I am not a savvy digital camera buyer. I wish I could have found more individual and/or professional reviews on this camera before I bought it.
I haven't had a lot of trouble learning to operate the camera - it can be operated without changing any of the auto settings. But, I did not realize I needed to buy a firewire cable to transfer video to my computer. I am hoping I can find one easily -- it's irritating that the manual does not give any instruction for this, and has no index.
The operation button for choosing menu settings is not easy to operate, I find myself having to push on the 4-directional function button many times before I finally get the correct option I wanted. This button is also used for viewing still thumbnails.
I am not savvy as I stated, but the still images do not appear all that clear. The difference between economy and fine detail is almost impossible for me to see. I have not had any of my images printed professionally, if this would make any difference.
I wish a strap could be attached to it, mainly so I wouldn't have to worry about fumbling and dropping it. One that balances the unit so it can hang around your shoulder or neck would have been a big plus.
I will of course continue to use my camera, but I wish there had been some reviews to read before I bought. I did a search today and found a good review on this product by (www.) dvspot -- I think this review is accurate and the reviewer is much more learned on the subject than am I.
Overall it is not quite what I was hoping, but it is still a pretty cool camera - and I do think I got a reasonable quality for what I paid (same price as the 'VL-Z1U' at my local Walmart).
