Listening vs. Reading

The Bottom Line I enjoy both avenues of adventure. Audio books are more conducive with my lifestyle at the moment. I really depends on the person, lifestyle, and time limits.

Reading Books

As a visual stimulation reading can be very calming and pleasurable. The thought of having a cup of tea or coffee, sitting and enjoying a new book we have just gotten is such a wonderful idea. Becoming captured by the pages turning them one by one, as the climax builds you find yourself turning them even faster.

The smell of the new book, freshly printed pages that are stiff and calling out to you. Picking up the book and fanning the pages into your face so the pungent smell of the ink assaults your nostrils. The pure anticipation of what is yet to be discovered. Regardless if it is a text manual, how to book, or merely a romantic or mystery. Nevertheless you are about to take a journey alone and willingly.

Listening to Audiotapes

Hearing the words pour out of an audio cassette is just as thrilling as reading the material. Often we are unable to take the time to enjoy a book by reading. Life styles of today leave little room for simple pleasures. I enjoy both reading and audio tapes.

I find I do not have to miss out on my favorite past time because I do not have the time to sit in a day. Instead while doing household chores, budgeting, sewing a new costume, or baking cookies that my child forgot to tell me they needed for school . . . I listen.

How can there be a drawback to either method of learning or experiencing and adventure? Audio tapes are not something that is really new to our society. I remember when I was a child and traveling all over the world with my family. In some countries no access to American TV was available, but always an American broadcast of some sort. Each night we would sit and stare at the radio, waiting impatiently for the "stories" to start. Becomingly enthralled in each word I heard come across the waves. Enjoying the journey alone, my eyes closed and my mind open to what the announcer was saying.
