| pwe7's Full Review: Dyson DC07 steel / yellow Upright Vacuum |
I have an update down in the optional tools that you can buy for the vacuum.
About three months ago my Kenmore vacuum started breaking belts. I could have just got it serviced and kept it. But the bags were expensive, $8 for two. I live in a desert were we have dust storms every now and then. Having allergies to dust I have been thinking of getting something with a hepa filter for a little while. Then on top of that I have two dogs, one cat and a toddler. Sometimes it seems like I'm going through a bag a month. So we went to Sears to see what kind of vacuums they had. I really didn't want to buy something that required frequent bag or filter changes.
The sales woman kept trying to steer us toward the bagless Whirlwind vacuums. But I dug in my heels and remained stubborn about the fact that there had to be something where I didn't have to buy filters on a regular basis. That's when I rounded the corner and saw the As Is vacuum section. I saw the Dyson DC70 and asked what was wrong with it. The lady said that some customer had bought it, found out that it was missing a spring in the handle. Instead of waiting for the item to be repaired she just decided to upgrade to a different model of Dyson. Well Sears had fixed the spring and guaranteed that everything worked perfectly now. That's when I saw the price, it had been marked down from $399.99 to $239.93. For that price I couldn't pass it up.
Features
Copied from website, then I expanded on them.
1. This vacuum has the most powerful suction. It's really amazing you can just keep filling and filling until it's full and then it still has the same amount of suction.
Dyson states:
After just 10 oz of dust other bag and bagless vacuums can lose up to half of their suction power. As soon as dust enters them they clog, which restricts the airflow and reduces suction power.
Dyson Root Cyclone technology uses 100,000G of centrifugal force in the cyclone to filter dust from the airflow efficiently. So it doesn't clog and doesn't lose suction.
2. It has the only quick draw hose. You just push a bottom at the top of the hose and there you go. 17 ft. of hose to vacuum anything from a full flight of stairs to getting those dust bunnies under the couch. The best thing of all is even when it is fully extended the vacuum won't tip over. Also since the hose points upright while your using the main vacuum they provide a filter on the end of the hose that retracts inside while your using it. So if you have long hair it will not get sucked into the hose.
3. Easy to clean. To empty the dust bin. There is a button on the top of the bin that releases the bin from the vacuum. Next place it above a trash can. Squeeze the trigger in the handle. The bottom flips open and the contents fall out. This makes it so that you don't have to touch the dust at any time.
4. Clog Free Filters. This vacuum has two filters. The post motor filter never needs to be cleaned. The pre-motor filter only needs to be rinsed out with water every six months. They give you a calender on the vacuum to remind you when to clean the filter. You just circle the two months you want to clean it in. It looks kind of like a Brita calender if you are familiar with those.
5. Protects delicate rugs and floors. When using this vacuum on bare floors or delicate rugs you can turn off the beater blade. There is a knob on the bottom right side, that can be easily moved with your foot.
6. Hepa Filter.
7. Kills Bacteria, Mold and Allergens. It traps them in it's Bacteria screen and kills them before they can enter back into the air.
8. Automatic Carpet Height Adjustment.
Dyson States:
No need to bend down.
The Dyson adjusts automatically to different carpet heights, so there are no awkward dials to adjust.
9. Light and Easy To Maneuver.
Dyson States:
The motor and wheel geometry balances the machine so the weight on the handle is only 4lbs. So it is easy on your wrist and light to steer around furniture.
10. Edge Cleaning Whiskers.
11. Reversible Wand. You can remove the wand from the hose and reverse it so that the handle is on the opposite end. This really helps get into those tight corners.
12. High Velocity Airflow Tools.
Dyson states:
Conventional tools can stick to carpets or curtains. This stops them from cleaning effectively and can make them hard work to use. The channels on the DCO7 tools direct the air down into the carpet pile. This has two main advantages:
You pick up more because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust.
The airflow is continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery, preventing them from becoming stuck to the tools.
13. Clear Bin. makes it easy to tell when the bin is full.
14. Tough Construction.
15. 2 Year Limited Household Warranty.
Dyson States:
All of the components of DCO7 have been extensively tested for durability and reliability in Dyson's in-house testing facility. Dyson vacuum cleaners are warranted for a period of two years from date of purchase.
16. Help Line. Never used this but it's kind of nice to know that it is there.

Other Tools you can buy:
Updated 12-31-03
Floor Tool $40.00
This allows you to reach under low furniture. It's adjustable to hard floors and carpets.
I've had this tool for a little more then a month. If you thought the main vacuum cleaned wood or tile floors then you will be really surprised at how well this tool works. This tool makes it easier vacuuming corners and wall edges. It also makes it possible to vacuum delicate rugs. I tried using the main vacuum on throw rugs and the main vacuum has so much suction that it tries to suck the whole rug up inside the vacuum. This tool helps keep the rug on the floor but still pulls the dirt out of the rug. The only thing that it had a little trouble with was long pet fur on one of my thicker rugs. If you already have the vacuum and are interested in getting this tool of course you can order out of the catalog that came with your machine. Or you can get the tools at Bestbuy. Either way it's still the same price, Bestbuy will just save you the shipping cost.
Animal Turbo Tool $40.00
26.5 oz. Air-powered brushbar helps pick up pet hair and lint in confined spaces such as cars and upholstery.
Zorb Carpet Maintenance Powder $10.00
Millions of tiny sponges absorb dirt from carpet, which the Dyson vacuum just vacuum away.
Zorb Groomer $20.00
This has long bristles to work the Zorb powder into the carpet.
Dyzolv Spot Cleaner $10
8.5 fl. oz. This spot cleaner is ideal for wool and stain-resistant carpets.
Dyson Cleaning Kit $35
This has one pack of Zorb, the Zorb Groomer and the Dyzolv spot cleaner.
You can also order replacement parts. If you really wanted to you can change the color of the machine from yellow to purple or red.
The attachments that came with the machine work great. The best thing about them is when vacuuming my curtains it removes the pet fur and lint without sucking my curtains up the hose. I'm planning on getting some of the other attachments. As soon as I do I'll update this to let you know how they work and if they are worth the extra price.
So What do I Like?
Everything. But if I would have to pick three favorites, number one would be the filters. Two would be the wand. Three would be the bin.
What do I not Like?
The vacuum has these removable areas all over the machine so if something gets clogged you can always get the junk out. Well If you take one of those sections out to check for clogs and you don't wipe it off before you put it back. It probably won't seal very well and then it whistles really really loud. If you always wipe it off before putting it back, you'll never have this problem.
Conclusion:
I love this vacuum if Sears had not had an As Is model, I would probably have just paid the $399.99 sticker price to get it. I'm amazed how much it has helped my allergies. It's nice cleaning and not getting my hands dirty.
Well I hope this helps! Thank you for reading my epinion.
