Washing Machines - Read the Updated Version (30/4/01) - not this one

Mar 12 '01 (Updated May 01 '01)

The Bottom Line Domestic front loader washing machines are small and water efficient - designed for places with limited space.

I live in England. Nearly ALL washing machines are front loaders, since they have to go in the kitchen under the counters. They're tiny. It took me a while to get used to - with my daughter, husband and myself, we do laundry about 2 days out of every 3.

So on the down side, the domestic front loader is small, but on the upside, they are much more water efficient, since you don't have to fill the drum with water (there's usually only between about quarter and half full drum of water). Also, you can watch your laundry.

What is REALLY annoying about front loaders is once there's water in it, you can't open it to put in that sock that you discover you dropped on the way down the stairs...

I therefore have a lot of dirty single socks after each load... :)
