| tchoate's Full Review: Grand Casino Gulfport Oasis Spa |
We visited the Grand Casino Gulfport Spa and Oasis on our recent vacation trip. We were on our way to Florida, but spent the night in Gulfport, Mississippi and decided to walk down the street to do some gambling at the Grand Casino. We didnt spend the night in the hotel, but did enjoy a walk around it and found it to be very well decorated and a place we would like to visit when we have more time.
The Casino Entrance
As with most casinos the entrance was very large with two separate covered areas, one in front of the casino and another in the front entrance to the hotel. They offer valet parking or a self-park garage where you can park your car for free while gambling at the casino or visiting the hotel. We found the parking to be mostly taken the afternoon of our arrival, but did find a place in the self-park garage which didnt leave us far to walk. The parking area was clean and well lit.
The Hotel
This casino offers two separate experiences when it comes to hotels. The hotel that is on the same side of the street as the casino is the casino hotel and across the street is the Oasis Resort and Spa. I mentioned earlier that we did not stay in either of the hotels as they were both booked. I will not be able to tell you what the rooms were like, but can tell you that they feature over 1,000 queen and king rooms in the two combined hotels.
The pool area was very attractive and clean. It seemed to be well maintained and would be a great place to sit in the sun and enjoy a good book. The pool also has a lazy river for floating and just relaxing as you wind through the tropical foliage that is surrounding the pool area. They offer a cabana bar, jacuzzi and two separate pools.
The Casino
This is were we spent the majority of our time at the Grand Casino Gulfport Spa and Oasis. I was truly surprised to find that they offered live Keno. I am a big fan of Keno and have never enjoyed playing it on the machines and was pleased to see a live Keno bar to sit down and play the game at my pace.
The casino itself is very large and even though it was crowded, you had plenty of room to move around without feeling trapped in a small area. I have found this to be a problem on many of the casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi, but this was definitely not the case here.
The Grand Casino offers over 70 table games including blackjack, three card poker, Pai-Gow Poker, Let It Ride Poker along with roulette and craps. My husband really enjoys playing three card poker and found the tables games to be lots of fun and even some $5.00 minimum tables, which is great for him. The wait staff in the casino and the dealers were friendly and made it a great atmosphere.
The casino also offers over 2800 slot machines ranging from 5 cent to 100 dollar video and reel slots. I really enjoyed playing the 5 cent slots and even ended up winning a little money from them. I also played on the quarter slots but didnt have much luck. The wait staff was always coming buy to see if I needed a drink or anything while I was playing.
All in all our experience at the casino was a great one. The Grand Casino offers a large designated non-smoking area in both the table game area and the slot machine area.
This was the first casino I had been in that was really family friendly. Our 15 year old son was with us and he was allowed to walk through the casino by wearing a bracelet that said NO DICE. This allowed him to go eat with us and to make his way to the arcade to play games while we gambled for a while. They also offer Kids Quest for younger kids, they do charge a small fee for this.
Restaurants
There are many wonderful restaurants in the Grand Casino. We enjoyed a great evening meal at the Nifty 50s casual dining area. The food was cooked after we ordered and served very quickly. I had a wonderful shrimp basket with fries, while others in my party had shrimp poboy sandwich.
Other restaurants include LBs Steakhouse, Magnolias, New Orleans Bistro and the huge Marketplace Buffet. The Marketplace Buffet offers food from around the world. I couldnt believe how huge this buffet was. The price was $12.99 per person. We didnt want to stand in the long line for the buffet, so we found something a little quicker and less expensive.
My Recommendation
If you find yourself near Gulfport, Mississippi make you way to the Grand Casino Gulfport Oasis and Spa. It is a great place to spend an evening or a few days relaxing and just having a good time.
Thanks for reading!!
