| Suzer's Full Review: Orange Clean Liquid Laundry Detergent |
After discovering the Oxi-Clean dry laundry detergent (very impressive product), I wondered if they also carried a liquid laundry detergent (my preference). I wasn't able to find it as easily as the Oxi-Clean, but discovered Orange Clean Liquid Laundry Detergent at a website offering their products.
While I don't have any intriguing stains on my clothing such as those experienced by Monica Lewinski, I do appreciate clean smelling and appearing clothes. One evening a blind date spilled his frozen strawberry margarita (or was it a daiquiri?)on my pale green dress-talk about "chilling out", and the darling didn't apologize or offer to take care of my cleaning bill. As soon as I arrived home shivering pathetically, I sprayed the dress with Oxi-Clean stain remover. Next, I decided to give this detergent a try, and it was a success! Needless to say, the man is history, but the dress is not!
Packaging:
I purchased a 64 ounce plastic container (quite durable) of this detergent. They state that it will handle 21 loads, and I guess if you follow their directions, it will do so. I find that I use more than that. I paid $5.99.
Scent:
Here is where I had a little problem with the product. I did my usual Suzerooster sniff test, and while it resembles an orange-like scent, it is also very soapy smelling.
Directions for use:
You can use this in all types of washers, and on any fabric that can be washed in a machine. Wait until your washer is filling with water before pouring in the detergent. They note that its high surfactant cleaning system penetrates, emulsifies and lifts away any soiling from your clothing and other fabrics without destroying them (always a plus). As I am not familiar with the word surfactant, and certainly didn't want to offend, I looked it up. It is apparently, for those like me who are clueless, a surface-active substance such as a detergent. Okay. I'm sure I'll now use this word daily (NOT!).
Warning:
Keep away from children and pets of course.
Follow instructions on your labels
How much you'll need as noted on the container:
For heavily soiled/stained fabrics/clothing and a large/very large load use most of the cap.
For medium load use and minimal staining use a half of the cap.
For a small load, you'll just need 1/4 of the cap.
Where you can purchase it:
It is not available in the stores at all. You may be able to purchase it through one of the infomercials, and certainly online. If you have difficulty finding an online site offering the liquid laundry detergent, please feel free to email me.
My experience:
After using this detergent on numerous loads of laundry I have found aspects of it that I really like and others I feel so-so about. It does remove the stains for me, and my clothes are definitely clean and fresh. On the other hand I would appreciate a detergent that is dye-free, hypoallergenic, that makes my clothes actually have a light citrusy scent when removed from the dryer. The scent is not noticeable after washing, so I'm not sure what the point of it is in that sense (no pun intended). I find this a very good laundry detergent, however personally prefer the liquid laundry detergent made by Sun and Earth. That has the light citrusy scent even after taking the clothes out of the dryer. I am giving the Orange Clean product three and a half stars (rounding up to four stars), and I do definitely recommend it to those who enjoy the Oxi-Clean, Orange Clean products, who want very good stain removal, fresh clothes, but it is not important to them that their clothes smell like oranges when removed from the dryer.
