purchased the 2800 to replace an aging Toshiba laptop (P100, 40mb RAM, 1.2 HDD) which served me faithfully for 5 years. In just the first month since purchase, the new computer is such a disappointment that I'm tempted to revert to my old machine and give the NEW one to my 3 year old son.

The factory installed Xircom MPCI modem/ethernet card NEVER connects on the first attempt. Connections are achieved only after two or more attempts and the connection speeds are significantly lower than even my old machine gets with its 3Com PCMCIA modem on the same phone line. A local Toshiba service center took a look at the modem and said "well if it dials, then it's working properly.

The new computer freezes up incessantly... even ctrl+alt+del can't get you out of the lock-up. I estimate that I must reach for the Toshiba reset button at least a couple of time a day. I have a suspicion that these problems may be caused by Windows Me.

Finally, the keyboard design is substandard compared to Toshibas of old. It does not have the sturdy big-keyboard feel that the old Toshibas had.

Older Satellites were renowned for have an internal AC adapter. With this machine, Toshiba has reverted to the external adapter... yet another cable and part dangling from your computer.

Oh yeah, I forgot... the DVD performance is unreliable. Every now and then this machine finds a disc it just hates and refuses to play without extended freezes. (again, which must be solved by a reset and reboot.)
