| wawright's Full Review: Samsung SCH-A310 Mobile Phone |
After using an Ericsson T39M for a year, I have to give up on GSM reception in my area. Coverage is pretty poor. In contrast, Verizon is actually continuous over the local driving area. So down to the Verizon store I went, and they sold me a new plan with a shiny Samsung SCH-A310, which I promptly took home and charged overnight. The next day, sometime in the afternoon, I notice that I was down to 1/2 battery, and I had only a couple of calls in or out. Well, I have since tried it several days, and it's got what I would term really lousy battery life.
The sales lady told me that she plugs her A310 in every night, and I began to wonder if I have been spoiled by my T39M. Then I noticed that, on several calls, I had to ask the caller to repeat what they said, because the high frequencies were visibly missing, and their voices were muffled.
Perhaps it's not the phone, I thought. So I used the same phone to call both the T39M via Tmobile and the A310 via Verizon. Handed them both to a friend and sent them out of earshot. We talked back and forth between both phones, and the comparison was quite obvious -- the sound quality of the A310 is lousy compared to the T39M.
Oh, all the other features of the A310 are probably great, but if the battery runs out and you have to work at it to hear, then what use are the fancy features? If the T39M worked on Verizon, I would be all set. I am returning the A310 in favor of a Motorola v60i, which I will report on soon.
Meanwhile, what's up with Ericsson? They seem to be in their own class.
