| subman02's Full Review: Intel Medion /Pentium 4 2.40GHz / 512MB / 120GB / ... |
I bought this Medion computer in july of 2003. I did some research and found out that Medion is a German company, that decided to move into the american market. Medion has won several computer awards in europe.
This computer features a pentium 4 2.4 ghz processor. An average user who just surfs the net and play games will find that anything more than 2 ghz is more than enough as long as its not a celeron processor.
This computer comes with 512 mb of ddr ram. This is more than enough for my everyday computer use.
It comes with an integrated video card that shares 64 mb with the system memory. This is the only setback, that a nvidia or radeon video card was not installed.
The hard drive is 120 gigs big. It is partitioned into two two different drives, one is local where everything is stored, and the other is used to store all the data in case you wish to use the system restore cds.
The front of the computer has a panel with 1 firewire port, 3 usb 2.0 versions, floppy drive and 4 in 1 card reader where you can manage data on your smartmedia cards, compactflash cards, memory sticks and multimedia cards. The front panel also features plugs for your speakers or headphones, the same goes for the back.
The computer comes with two bays. One holds the dvd-r drive. It can record on a dvd-r at speeds of 4x and dvd-rw at 2x. It can record on a cd-r at speeds of 16x and cd-rw at 8x. The pc comes with nero preinstalled. The 2nd bay features the dvd player that can play at speeds of 16x.
It comes with a 56k modem for those of you who still use that and a standard ethernet card for broadband use.
The keyboard that comes with the computer is horrible, it is not comfortable at all and I chose to use a keyboard I had purchased earlier. The mouse it comes with is made by logitech and had a wheel on the bottom, it is not bad at all.
The downside is that this computer does not come with any set of speakers, and I was forced to buy cheap speakers on Ebay.
The other downside with this computer is the customer service, I called medion tech support, because I had problems with my sound, they tell me to reformat my computer. I had bought a 3 year warranty with BestBuy and called their tech support and they easily told me how to reinstall my sound card drivers. I strongly recommend you buy an additional warranty with the store from with you buy this computer from.
