Paint The Town With Sherwin Williams Red Devil Jet Black Acrylic Latex Enamel

Written: Jul 05 '03 (Updated Jul 08 '03)
Pros:Easy application, durable finish
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: We regularly choose the Sherwin Williams/Red Devil name because it's easy to apply to a smooth finish and durability has never been an issue.

One look at our paint shelf is all it would take to understand both my husband and myself are true do-it-your-selfers. It would also become evident that Sherwin Williams Red Devil Interior/exterior Acrylic Latex Enamel paints are a favorite here.

This line of Sherwin Williams/Red Devil paints are water-soluble and an excellent product for use on wood, metal or masonry and concrete. We have used Red Devil paints for some years with each and every can resulting in a smooth long lasting finish. These particular acrylic latex enamel paints are well suited for either interior or exterior projects.

Sherwin Williams Red Devil Jet Black Interior/exterior Acrylic Latex Enamel leaves a smooth, even coat whether working on either wood or metal surfaces. In this product, Sherwin Williams offers up a quality self-leveling paint that helps reduce and even eliminate brush marks all together with minimal effort. Even though a single coat is sufficient in many cases, you may find it necessary to place a second coat on bare woods and metal surfaces to end up with consistent color. Despite the manufacturer's suggestions, a single coat may also be sufficient if the project entails repainting a surface with an existing coat of paint (of same or lighter color) or if a primer coat has been previously applied. In either case, the final result will be a tough finish that should last for some time.

Of special interest to parents of infants or small children, this line of paints are both lead-free and non-toxic as well.We purchased this paint in the half pint size at a price of $3.79. It is also available in the quart size at a bit more economical cost of around $10.00 should you have the need.

If you're looking to put a bit more color in your life try the same paint in the following colors:

Almond
Crimson
Hunter Green
Jet Black
Plum
Pure White
Rich Walnut
Satin Black
Satin White

The manufacturer suggests that drying time is approximately 1 to 2 hours. In most cases the paint is dry to the touch within two hours. This should be ample time in all but the most humid conditions in which case you may consider waiting to longer no matter which brand of paint is used. The manufacturer also suggests 3 to 6 hours as the recommended wait time between coats should a second coat be necessary. From personal experience with this paint, a minimum four hours between coats is best since a light sanding of the surface is required for the second coat to adhere properly.

Sherwin Williams Red Devil Jet Black Interior/exterior Acrylic Latex Enamel is simple to clean up. As with any latex based paints, brushes and rollers are easily cleaned with warm soapy water.

Over the years we have used store brands and Rust-Oleum products, as well as others depending on available colors with mixed results. This line of paint has consistently given us a quality results and long lasting finish in each instance. At $3.79, this paint is a bit more costly than a number of it's competitors. While we have used store brands or lesser priced choices on minor projects, this is usually the brand we choose for expensive or labor intensive jobs. Yeah, a definite five star recommendation on this one.
