This was on my 2nd trip to the Keys, I missed the Hemmingway house the first trip and didn't want to miss it the 2nd. First, beware of the intersection by the Hemmingway house on Whitehead st. Minutes after I arrived there was a big accident and traveling throughout my stay, I almost was hit at the nearest crossroad. There is a stop sign but I think it is unclear to the opposite traffic. Admission is $10 and you are instructed to wait xx minutes for the guided tour or to go ahead and look around for yourself (you can come back at the designated time for the guided tour). There are dozens of cats everywhere! All the cats have 6-7 toes. Some are very old and their toe abnormality is sadly crippling them from moving around. We decided to tour the house ourselves and got bits and pieces from the tour guides speeches as we were walking around. The best part of the whole place is all of the cats..they are so friendly and very sensitive about you touching their feet! The worst part was the heat. We arrived at 9:15am in July and were sweating profusely.
