I have had Alltel phone service for the past year in Raleigh, NC. I subscribe to the national freedom plan, with 450 anytime minutes, and 4500 night/weekend minutes. I have two phones. The total monthly bill for this, including the ~15 I pay in taxes/charges is $85. My phones were free with the one year contract. The gentleman who sold me the phone was very nice, very polite, and very well informed. He showed me how to use the phone and gave me an accurate estimate of what my monthly phone bill would be.
The first month that I got my bill it was wrong. Somehow I had been enrolled in two separate phone plans, and had a bill for approximately $130. Oh yes, and the last name on the account was wrong. I thought that was interesting, as I have never been married and have no idea where they got that last name from... but I digress. I called customer service.
God help you if you have to call customer service.
After 20 minutes on hold, I was able to reach a helpful young man who fixed my problem and assured me that Alltel would go back, total up the minutes on both plans, and credit my account. Great. I hang up. But now my voicemail doesn't work. I call again. This time it was 32 minutes on hold. No, I'm not kidding. 32 minutes on hold.
This time a young lady helps me, and before everything is straightened out I ask her about the last name on the account. She says I have to go to an Alltel office and show ID to have my name corrected.
Second bill - plan has been corrected, but I was never credited for the previous month. My last name is still wrong.
I wrote "My last name is not Price, it is Adams" in the comments section of the bill for several months. I suppose some inquisitive person finally changed it, because the bills now come to me, not Ms. Price.
Anyways, long story short - the actual phone service is good (4/5). The price is comparable to other phone services (3/5). The customer service could improve (2/5).
