| jenzj's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Inkjet Printer |
There are many fine qualities about this printer. But what I had in mind was using the printer to print tabloid size brochures and the like. Since it could handle thick paper (according to the specs) and had a straight-through paper feed, it *seemed* like a perfect match.
But I was disappointed with the printer after a full day (with the Epson technical support staff). I returned it to my computer store.
What is wrong with the printer?
Well, for printing photographs on special Epson paper, it may be just perfect. But, I wanted it to handle general office color printing and, most importantly, quality printing on normal glossy paper. (This paper is available for offset printing.) The idea was to print out brochures or color newsletters that could be sent out. For the $$$, I wanted quality.
So, I put in standard laser paper and got decent print quality. I was printing mixed text and photographs. But the quality was not that good. The ink soaked into this paper too much. So, I tried inkjet paper, with not any better results.
I then put in offset glossy paper (11 X 17"). It was a heavier stock. When I tried printing (text and photos), it smeared consistently. So, I called the tech support and, although helpful (they had me adjust the paper feed control in back), they said that only Epson paper would work.
Now, Epson paper is expensive. Maybe it makes sense if all you are doing is photos. But for 20 sheets, it was $54. That is too much.
In my case, I had four-color offset paper that was preprinted. I wanted to use this paper. Again, smears-ville.
I was very disappointed.
On the positive side, I found the set up to be easy, and the tech support to be helpful (although they were not willing to invest any time with non-Epson paper).
So, if you are planning to use this printer for quality business printing (ie, text and photos), you should stay away.
