Cons: Limitation of recording time(35 to 40 hours).
The Bottom Line: If you can get a bargain on this unit, snap it up. Sign up for Ultimate TV. You'll never watch TV the same way again.

There are two topics here: (1) The Ultimate TV Service and (2)The RCA "Box." I've read all of the reviews posted before this one and won't waste your time stating what those more technically adept than I have already covered.
(1) Direct TV Ultimate TV
We have been Ultimate TV subscribers for the past year. It has changed the way we watch television. We never worry about missing a favorite show and have taken program 'time shifting' to a new level. We will never watch TV the same way again! Yes, it's $10 more a month for this service but it is the best $10 you'll spend all month.
(2) "The Box"
We had been Direct TV or Dish TV subscribers for over five years before we purchased this product. Trouble with a defective Sony box led to my search for a replacement. I found this in our local Best Buy store at a truly 'best buy' for under $50.
When we first began using the RCA receiver we were enamored with the features and capabilities. We quickly realized that this was an early generation unit that offered many easy opportunities for improvement. To their credit, Ultimate TV recently provided a software upgrade that increased functionality on several fronts. This is new technology that has tremendous potential and we look forward to future generations of similar products.
With that said, this has been my favorite electronic purchase in years. It has added a dimension to our television viewing habits that we never imaged. We may watch more shows, but do so more efficiently. We can stop, start and pause shows whenever we'd like whether we're watching them live or as recorded.
We'll never watch TV the same way again!
