The only thing you need to know about CompUSA computers and their store in general is STAY AWAY. You'll buy yourself more headaches than anything else

I used to work for a office supply super store, and we also sold computers.
We'd get the flyers about a week before the sale, and wait for the untis to come in. We'd be lucky if we had 3 at the beginning of the sale and got in 5 more during the week.
Its like that at all the super stores (CompUSA, Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc..)
As for the help, I'll agree 100% that it can take a large part of a vacation to find someone to help you, and a lot of the time the help isn't much help at all
Sometimes, a store will offer a bonus (SPIFF) if you sell a certain item. I've seen the sales reps flat out lie to customers just to get that spiff.
I always suggest for people to use their resources and do the research themselves, or have someone they know and trust to get advice form.

great review! I can tell you've helpeda lot of people with it!

I just made a comment for another epinion on this topic that basically said I've heard this story way too many times. While I HAVE actually seen a sale computer available on the shelf, it was the ONLY one available.

I have heard a lot of people who went to buy the sale computer use the "bait and switch" line when complaining to me about them. Honestly, I don't know how they can stay in business, with Best Buy, Gateway, Dell and even Circuit City around.

Personally I don't complain much since I only buy the "free" stuff they advertise. I have about 100 CDR's that I bought for free from there. (except one box of 10 that I forgot to send in the rebate form for.)

Good review.

You were lucky... (Reply to this comment)

I made the mistake of buying my first computer from CompUSA. Oh, they were wonderful during the sale. But when I had problems with the computer, they told me they would put me on a waiting list to have it fixed, and that it would probably be two weeks before they could look at it. Since I use the computer to run my business, there was no way I could go for two weeks without a computer. They didn't care when I told them this was urgent.

Someone above was looking out for you when you weren't able to purchase those advertised computers.

Yes, it is laziness (Reply to this comment)

I was as lazy as you and instead of driving for 10 more minutes, I went to CompUSA for all my computer needs, even though often I had my fights with managers because I've been overcharged or I had to wait because only one of 8 cash registers was open. But ever since they opened BestBuy next door, I don't even think about looking into CompUSA anymore. I fully agree with your review; I could see it happen as I was reading it.

...if I get a vote, I vote for more paragraph breaks. That would make this an easier read--it's already very informative.
