I went to cd Universe to find some to hard to locate movies.
I found four that I have been looking for and could not find in stock on other websites. I do not like waiting so I appreciate sites that have things in stock.
The prices were average and it looked like DVD prices were generally not much higher than the VHS prices and seemed to be either the same or a couple of dollars higher, although I did see a couple of movies where the DVD was about $5 higher but this was rare. I like DVD much better but I am always wanting what I can get fast so chose not to wait.
The movies I bought were:
Our Town DVD for $11.25
Streetcar Named Desire on DVD for $15.95
Emperor Jones on VHS for $10.19
Anna Christie on VHS for $15.29
I was starting to wonder if the last two even existed because I have looked for them on so may website and have not even been able to backorder them, not only did I find the movies but they were in stock.
When you get to the website which is cduniverse.com you will just need to register by provide your email and name. There are no credit cards needed to register and it only takes a min. You can chose to just shop around as well.
You can type the name of any movie you are interested in and there will be several options come up. You can search by DVD, VHS, or Movie to get both. I always search by movie because I am impatient and willing to take a VHS rather than wait.
Once your movie selections come up there is a more information button you can and should click. This button tells you if this movie is in stock or if it will have to be back ordered. You will also find out that back ordered movies take a lot longer, 10-14 days before shipping. This is opposed to the two days noted for shipping items that are in stock.
You will also want to find out if this is the movie you really want and the more information button does this. You can find out who stars in, directs, and, in some cases, who wrote and produced the movie. Either way, you will know if this is the version of the movie you want or not. I have seen some negative reviews of this site based on people getting a version of a movie they did not want or even know existed. Maybe using this button would have have helped or maybe it was a problem at the sipping location; I do not know but suggest making sure you select the version of the movie you want. This is becoming increasingly important as many movies are being remade over the years and the buyer may not beware that an older version, or any other version even exists. As far as returns go, I have no reason to return my movies so I do not know how this company deals with returns. I know that I was given return instructions with my movies in the event that I needed to return them.
It is important to know that if you order movies that are in stock and some that are back ordered you must select if you want them shipped together or as they come in. If shipped together, there is a lower shipping charge but you will have to wait longer, up to two weeks more, for the movies that are in stock that you could have in 3-4 days. If you ship individually, there is a charge for each shipment. Also, if you order more than one movie on backorder they may come in at separate times and have individual charges unless you want them shipped together. In the case that you buy movies that are in stock and movies that are not, I prefer to place two orders, one with the in stock movies and one with all of the back ordered movies.
My movies came in a small box with packing peanuts. They were carefully packed and could not be harmed even under wild delivery conditions.
The movies were of high quality and had many improvements in quality over the original state of the film. This was all done without altering the content, which I appreciate.
After all of your selections are made, you can click on the check out button and check out is easy and only takes a couple of min.s. You will need your credit card handy and can ship to any address. You do not have to have the movies shipped to the credit card address.
You will need to select a shipping option and I found that priority mail through the USPS was as cheap or cheaper than UPS or regular USPS first class mail. I was able to get the 4 movies delivered in 2 days for $6.99. While this is not free, it is cheaper than many other sites.
You will want to print the information when you complete the order. You will also be notified via email when your order is received. You will be notified again on the status of your order when it is shipped. This notification will also remind you of the shipping method you wanted. so, you will know when to expect your package.
When I placed my order, I was notified that it would be 2 days before the order was shipped. I placed the order late in the day. I was notified the next day that my order had already shipped. This is a day early. Being impatient, I was very pleased. Two days later, I had the movies in hand.
I was very pleased with the service and product. There may be lower prices on a few discount sites but these prices were average and when the products are hard to find this may be a place you want to try.
