Pros: Large LCD display, lots of features
Cons: Image quality so so, does not come with any film or a case, reliability questionable
The Bottom Line: Cannot recommend because of transport failure after one day. Lots of features but image quality lacking.

| melmoth's Full Review: JVC Cybercam GR-D90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder |
I did not do a lot of research on mini-DV cams. My old Sony 8mm stopped recording, but played back okay so I thought it a good time to convert my 8mm to digital so I could easily put on the PC and eventually DVD. I found the JVC GR-D90u at Costco (the only other DV camera they had was a bulky looking Sharp). After a trip back for some DV tape (it comes with none) I recorded a short film and downloaded via firewire and Windows Movie Maker with no problems. Then I tried to dub a one hour tape into the JVC from my Sony. After about 40 minutes started hearing a loud grinding sound from the JVC's tape transport. The sound did not go away although it continued to record. So it's back to Costco tonight to return it. I don't know if I really want to try another JVC or just try to get my money back and look elsewhere.
