I am not at all saying that people are on here writing epinions for the money. No matter how you would like to view the service or analyze its use, there ARE small pockets of writers whose sole motivation is to make money off of this service.

While that is not a bad thing (I make about $400-$500 a year off of epinions), when some of these writers employ unfair tactics and or write unfounded epinions it becomes a bad thing. There are also many other writers who are on here to make money but earn that money by providing the readers on the web with insightful, informative, original content.

A good writer does not need rate clubs, spam lists, or sway raters. A good writer just needs to write thier own stuff and make sure that they properly convey thier opinion on a particular product.

Personal Experience (Reply to this comment)

I really and truly believe that anyone could write a review out here based on a synopsis of the product description that is on the official web site of the product as well as the labeling of the product (book jacket cover, movie cover, etc.)

However, that review would be lacking personal experience with the product which is what I believe makes this place different than others.

I've rated lower for lack of personal experience or personal impressions in a product, and I will again in the future. If that causes me to be flamed, then so be it..

Your point......you just got hit with a couple of the low raters on this one! VH from me, as this was very helpful.

rating clubs (Reply to this comment)

the people who participate in them will be identified by the community - or do *you* trust the members of such a club? Do you trust their ratings? Or do you BLOCK them?
If you several people block them, then their ratings will be irrelevant - filtered out and their activities are irrelevant. Just a matter of time.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your point... (Reply to this comment)

So, you are basically saying the opinion writers are visiting this site to make money. Right? I am relatively new member here, and I still don't see why they devote themselves only for money.

If I don't understand your points correctly, please let me know. I am more than happy to change the rating.

One can usually tell (Reply to this comment)

if a person used the product or not. Another I don't trust is when a person writes more than 3 reviews on a car and submits them one after the other. It has gotten so that I just skip reading car reviews altogether.
