I recently bought a HP Pavilion Home Computer. Since I already had a monitor, I didn't get the whole package deal. Plus, I had a Brother 5-in-1 Office Machine at home which claimed to act as a printer as one of its features. I tried to hook the Brother Office Machine up to the HP Pavilion, however I was not able to print from all of the software on my computer. So, I had to go back to store and get a HP Deskjet printer. Unfortunately, the printer did not come with a USB cable to attach it to the computer. Since I was trying to connect two HP machines, it made sense to turn to the HP store.
FINDING THE HP STORE
Isn't there a saying that all urls point to Rome? You can type www.hpshopping.com but other combos work as well. For example, if you type HP into your computer in almost any format or with any other words attached you will end up at the shopping site.
THE SITE
I now have high speed internet and a new computer so the web site loaded very quickly for me, however, there were a lot of graphics so this might not be the case on the slower machine. The search feature was not particularly helpful. My printer recommended a particular part number for the USB cable, but when I plugged that part number into the search engine, I didn't get the part. There were similar parts, so I chose one of those. However, you would think, since this is a HP site, they would provide more information about which parts are compatible with their hardware.
The site's selection is limited to certain manufacturer's products (HP and Compaq) so you won't find a huge range here - however there is still quite a bit to choose from.
SHOPPING
Shopping and check out were easy enough. You can add items to a cart. There is a little box in the upper right hand corner of the screen that shows the cart, what you have selected and, most helpful, the shipping charges so far. Check out process requires only the minimum amount of information. You don't need to select a password unless you want them to save your information. I got an email confirming my order shortly after I placed it.
SHIPPING AND PACKAGING
I got an email the day after my order was placed indicating my item had shipped. I got another Email to indicate that the cable shipped. The item shipped the day after I placed the order and arrived 5 days after I placed the order - exactly as they promised.
PACKAGING AND DELIVERY
The item was extremely well packed in paper in a well-secured box. The paper packing material could be recycled. The item was delivered by a guy in no uniform in a rental truck so it was a little confusing when he showed up and rang the bell. However, he did tuck my box into a plastic bag to protect in on a rainy day.
PRICE
I bought my usb cable here for $19.99 plus $4.99 shipping but no tax. I bought a similar cable in a best buy store for $37 which included tax but no shipping.
RETURNS
I didn't make a return. However, according to the packaging, HPshopping accepts returns for up to 30 days after delivery. Shipping charges are not refunded.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
I didn't need to talk to live people. There is a phone number provided in the packaging for customer service: 1-800-HPINVENT.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
This was a perfect shopping experience. Placing an order was easy. The company kept me updated as to status. The item arrived when promised in a well-packed box. I definitely recommend this site.
