| doglover's Full Review: Sony 32MB USB MicroVault Storage Media (USM32U2/M2... |
I was first introduced to the pen drive technology when I was in a training class at work. We were having problems downloading required software from the web, so the teacher just whipped out his pen drive that he had in his pocket (its only about 3 ½ inches long and 1 inch wide) and plugged it into my USB port on my laptop. My Windows 2000 operating system sensed the drive automatically and I could immediately see the data through explorer as an additional drive. The drive response had minimal delay and I quickly and conveniently transferred my data to my local C: drive. Note that you cannot just pull out the drive when you are done. You have to go to the control panel and say to stop the drive before you pull it out.

WHAT I USE IT FOR
I use it to transfer data between my work laptop and my home computer. Its also great if you want to take some neat digital pictures that you have on another system and port them over to someone elses system. Most computers nowadays have a USB port configured on it. As an example, a friend of mine got exuberant with his picture taking on our last sailing trip and took over 130 pictures. He tried to burn them on a CD from his digital camera, and had some problems transferring the data. Instead, he saved it on our work system, I copied all the data onto my laptop, and when I got home, I used the pen drive to transfer all the data over to my home computer. The software automatically opens up the folder as pictures with my Windows XP OS, and I get a neat slide show of all the pictures, deleting automatically all the ones of me looking totally soaked! Then I copied over all the pictures into my documents folder and set up the system to use the pictures as my screen saver. A very nice remembrance of my neat trip and some great pictures of the San Francisco Bay!
Bottom line, if you want to quickly transfer data between systems without the annoyance and expense of burning a CD, the limited file sizes and awkward restrictions of sending your data through e-mail or the restrictions of limited storage capacity on floppy drives, then this is a great option.
