| bldgttdave's Full Review: Panasonic KX TG2215B Cordless Phone (KX-TG2215B) |
If only progress was always in a positive direction.
Our 10 year old Sony cordless was occasionally refusing to dial (or punch or whatever we call it), so I jumped into the abyss of technology shopping. Armed with a recent Consumer Reports review of phones and an idea of what we wanted (better range) and what we didn't need (answer machine, call waiting, caller id)we headed to the local discount department store. I find that stores usually don't have most of the models in any Consumer Reports review, and the sales people always roll their eyes.
To cut to the chase, we got the Panasonic. The construction, especially for the controls, seemed cheap. The sound quality was awful for both parties- echos, "far away", etc. The range seemed no better than our old analog 900 MHz. There are six ring patterns, none of which we wished to live with. There are only three settings for ring volume - off, low, and high. The phone volume and channel shift are hard to get at while using the phone. The manual says you need to leave the phone off the charger until the charge is very low to extend battery life, so where do you keep it? The wall mounting bracket doesn't easily release the phone, and you have to push TALK before the call is answered (so you can screen your calls, I guess) Fortunately, the four way multi function button stopping working after a week and I returned the phone back guilt free.
