| dalesky's Full Review: Tupperware 4-Piece Rock 'N Serve Gift Set |
I might have bought these when they 1st came out, because mine are clear with light blue covers. Regardless, I bought these primarily because they were made for freezer to microwave.
You can put any Tupperware in the microwave, but risk pockmarking or even melting. The thing to remember about microwaving with Tupperware is that anything with meat or meat fat (gravy, juice from meat) and butter is likely to be too hot for the plastic used in Tupperware.
That's really the issue- certain kinds of fat get too hot, and can 'burn' the Tupperware surface. Also, foods can stain the surface.
I have not had problems with other food items, including boiling water in any Tupperware container.
The items being reviewed are different from most Tupperware. They are made for microwaving, and even though they recommend against doing something like cook a roast in them, they are tough enough for reheating anything I can think of. In close to 2 years of regular use I have not seen them discolor either.
My benchmark is storing hot tomato sauce, then reheating it. No problem in these.
The seal is a regular Tupperware type, but there is a round silver-dollar sized device also, near the edge of the lid. This is the Rock 'N Serve seal. It opens for venting without splattering. Not much different than a similar type of vent available years ago, but somewhat improved I believe. Easy to use, and effective. I also leave it open if I am about to store something hot. I let it cool down a while with the vent open.
The bottom of these containers have 4 little feet to keep the hot container off of any delicate surface. Kind of like a built in trivet. They do work.
The container has ears that allow you to pick it up when the contents are hot. Like having a built in hot pad.
If, and I have not yet, but IF you do stain these, or any Tupperware container, there is a dishwasher product made for removing the stains. It's made by a leading dishwasher detergent company, and approved by Tupperware. I have used it and found it to be effective, but not perfect. Here's what a leading consumer testing magazine said:
....also tested Cascade's Plastic Booster. For $3 per bottle, it promised to take stains off plastic containers.
Testers tried Plastic Booster on Tupperware and other plastic containers discolored from tomato sauce. They found that the product removes stains better than dishwashing detergent.
"These containers look almost as good as new," said .. of ....
As with all Tupperware, a lifetime guarantee applies. I've used the guarantee, with no problems.
I highly recommend these items for storage of any food you want to freeze, and/or reheat. The sizes are convenient, giving you a nice range to select from for various food storage.
