Caesar's Indiana - A Great Place to Stay and Play (Great Hotel W/o)

Written: Jul 24 '03
Pros:Nice-Clean rooms with plenty to do
Cons:The casino was not what I expected
The Bottom Line: Great place to stay and have a little fun too

My husband and I recently took a trip to Kentucky and Indiana. It was a little hard getting my husband to commit to making the trip to meet family we didn't know and stay in a strange place, but his eyes lit up when I said there was a casino we could stay at. Caesar's Indiana is located just a few short miles from Louisville Kentucky; just across the Ohio River in Elizabeth, Indiana.

Caesar's Indiana is a Hotel and Riverboat Casino. They offer more than just gambling, they have several restaurants to choose from, entertainment with names such as K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Tony Bennett and Sinbad, and an 18 hole golf course located a few miles away.

HOTEL CHECK IN

The hotel and casino complex is really big and we initially thought that it was going to be difficult finding our way around. We were wrong, Caesar's had many helpful signs telling us where to go and what parking lot we should park in.

We parked our car and went inside the hotel. We followed the signs to the front desk and we were immediately checked in. The gal at the front desk was very friendly and chatted with us for a little bit asking us where we were from and what we were doing in Indiana.

The lobby of the hotel was everything you would expect from Caesar's from the Roman feel to the tile floors and rich area rugs. The front desk is located on one end of the lobby with plenty of couches and comfy chairs in the center of the lobby. Located to the left of the lobby is a small cafe that offers pastries and coffee for purchase. To the right is the exercise room and a small gift shop.

OUR ROOM

We had selected the hotel online and were very impressed with the size of our room. We had a king sized bed, a small table/writing desk with one hard back chair, an armoire that held the television and a few drawers, and a small cloth chair. We were very happy with the size of our room.

The bathroom was almost as big as the room or at least it seemed to be. The lay out of the bathroom was wonderful. There was a sink and large size counter area with a large mirror. The bathtub/shower was normal in size. Overall the bathroom was large enough for me and my husband to get ready for the day without bumping into each other. The toilet area was separate and allowed for plenty of privacy.

They offered small complimentary bottles of shampoo, bath gel, lotion and soap that are displayed on a small little plastic rack, which I thought was a nice little touch. Caesar's also provides in the room coffee, with a small two cup coffee maker you can make regular or decaf coffee. They also include a small package of sugar, cream substitute and a sugar substitute. The coffee mugs that they have are real coffee mugs not styrofoam cups.

The room also came with a blow dryer, ironing board, and internet hook up. My husband was pleasantly surprised when he opened our door in the morning and there was a newspaper. Caesar's delivers a national newspaper to all of their guests.

ROOM SERVICE

My husband and I ordered room service a few times. The menu was small, but reasonably priced. They have several small menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night. There are items such as cheeseburger w/french fries, turkey sandwich, steak, salads and plenty of appetizers and beverages to choose from.

The few times that we ordered room service, our food was brought to us warm and in the amount of time promised.

AMENITIES

The hotel has a swimming pool located on the second floor. It is an indoor pool with a nice romantic roman feel to it. There are trees and statues that are placed throughout the pool area. They do have a small patio just off the pool area for relaxing in the sun.

Caesar's has a fitness room that includes a small variety of exercise machines. They have about two treadmills, an exercise bike, and weight lifting equipment. The exercise room is open 24 hours a day.

Caesar's has an 18 hole golf course called "Chariot Run". It is located approximately 10 miles from the hotel. My husband and I drove by, but did not go on the grounds. What we did see was a lot of green grass and trees.

DINING

VILLA BUFFET - The first night we stayed at Caesar's my husband wanted to have the buffet. Well a buffet is not the place to go when you are trying to watch what you eat, but hey we were on vacation so I agreed. We had a buffet dinner and when we paid the cashier asked us if we wanted a slice of prime rib for an extra dollar. Sure why not we were on vacation. We were given a little certificate for our piece of prime rib and was told to give it to the chef at the meat carving station.

The buffet was enormous. They offered pastas, Chinese food, two types of green salad, potato salad, pasta salads, pizza and plenty of fattening appetizers from fried cauliflower to jalapeno poppers. They also had ham, roast beef and of course our dollar piece of prime rib. The buffet also had a wide variety of desserts and ice cream.

Over all, we enjoyed the buffet. It was great to have the variety of foods to choose from and our waitress was great and very attentive.

CLEO'S COFFEE SHOP - We did not eat at the coffee shop, because it was always crowded. The coffee shop is open 24 hours a day and serves sandwiches, desserts and coffees. You order at the counter and find a table either inside the coffee shop out outside in the main Roman themed indoor walkway.

CASINO COFFEE SHOPS - The riverboat casino has three coffee shop/snack bars. The coffee shops offer foods such as hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza and salads.

LEGENDS - This is a bar/restaurant. One night my husband and I just sat at the bar and enjoyed each others company while enjoying a glass of wine. The other night we had dinner in the restaurant.

Legends is considered a sports bar, but the televisions that were around the room were turned down low to where you were not competing with the volume of the sports event that was playing. I really enjoyed this.

Their dinner menu offers full dinners and appetizers. My husband and I splurged and got the onion circles (onion rings) and he ordered the club sandwich and I ordered pesto pasta. My dinner came with a salad and garlic bread for just under $10.00. Everything tasted great.

PORTICO - Is a fine dining restaurant. My husband and I did not eat there, but were tempted many times. They offer steaks and seafood.

CASINO

The casino is located on an older Riverboat. It is a typical casino with slot machines and gaming tables. The casino has four different floors of gaming on the riverboat. Each is a different theme, however I really did not notice a big difference in the themes of each floor.

The casino gives their guest free soda with a self serve soda machine featuring Pepsi products. They also offer drinks for a fee delivered to you by a hostess at your favorite gaming spot. My husband ordered one beer for $2.50.

I was a little disappointed by the casino. I had visions of it really looking like a riverboat on the inside, but it did not. I told my husband that it would have been nice if they had a small snack bar or a bar outside so you could sit on the deck of the boat and enjoy the scenery. You were allowed access to a small deck outside of the entrance but it was not romantic or a nice area to view. Basically if you did not see the riverboat when you drove onto the property, you would not know that you were gambling on a riverboat.

If you are staying in Caesar's hotel you will have to expect to walk a long way to get to the casino. The casino is at one end of the property and the hotel is at the other end. The indoor walkway from the hotel to the casino is very clean and enjoyable to stroll from one place to the other. They have moving walkways to help speed your walk and the ceiling is a fake skyline which give the illusion of walking outside.

PRICE

We stayed three nights at Caesar's Indiana. One night was $74.00 and the other two were $94.00. This was for a king sized bed, non smoking room. We thought this was very reasonable for the quality and size of the room.

The hotel also offers Jacuzzi tub rooms and suites.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If our travels took us to the area we would definitely stay at Caesar's Indiana again. We found that it was a nice place to stay that was close to many attractions.
