| ggrimes1221's Full Review: Kaboom Porcelain, Tile and Grout Restorer |
After reading others reviews and comments about this product, it pains me to have to write a somewhat negative review! However, I guess that is what makes Epinions a truly honest and informative consumer web site, because we have come to agree to disagree about certain products and or services.
Notice, I stated this review would be somewhat negative, not an absolute article stating my discontent with Kaboom Porcelain Tile and Grout Restorer. My main objective for writing this review is to explain that this product is not the Miracle bathroom cleaning agent of the Millennium as depicted on the infomercials.
KABOOM
The purple bottle is attractive and is sold in a pump spray bottle of 22 FL OZ [651ml] for around $4.50 in local grocery or department stores. While once sold only through infomercials or QVC, I was pleased when I found it at my favorite Grocery Store.
TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE BOTTLE; Kaboom Porcelain, Tile and Grout Restorer breaks through rust, soap scum, and hard water buildup by harnessing the power of natural cleaning ingredients. This high performance formula leaves no residue after rinsing.
With the infomercials, they go to a landfill or dump and bring in a blackened, basically nasty, deserted porcelain sink. They spray on the Kaboom and miraculously after waiting a few moments all the dirt, rust, and scum, are easily wiped away with a damp sponge. Guess what folks!!! Anything that appears too good to be true on television, most usually is!!! IT SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK THAT EASY!!!
DIRECTIONS ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER
1. Test in an inconspicuous area before use.
2. Apply directly to surfaces or with sponge and let stand for 1 - 3 minutes.
3. Wipe and rinse thoroughly with water to avoid drying on surface.
4. Repeat as necessary. After use, rinse sponge with water.
As I read over the reviews last night I decided to pull out the trusty purple bottle today and try it again to have a fresh perspective before I completed this review. NO, my bathtub was not covered in filth, or rusted over such as that shown on tv, but I will admit, it did need a good cleaning for some soap scum, and hard water stains. I followed the directions as stated. Actually I left it set a little longer than the 3 recommended minutes before going back to sponge off the dirt and leave my porcelain tub sparkling. GUESS WHAT AGAIN FOLKS!!! It didn't work that easy.
MY FINDINGS AS OF TODAY FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2003
YES it does work, but not with the advertised ease, and definitely not without a mild abrasive scrub pad. After scrubbing, {I did this in small areas, not an all over cleaning at once} and a final rinse, most of the soap scum and build up was clean, however some areas required a second treatment to get that desired gloss porcelain shine. There was very minimal chemical fumes, basically a fresh clean, non irritating odor. I did notice that after working with Kaboom for about an hour total, my hands did experience a slight burning, itching, and redness sensation. I would advise when using this or any cleaning agent to wear protective gloves for sensitive hands.
Would I buy it again? YES, I most likely will as I am about ¾ of the way through my first bottle. I am not extremely unimpressed with the performance of this product as it does basically what it claims it does, just not with the ease and simplicity the advertisers would like you to believe.

IN CLOSING: MY FINAL THOUGHT
It almost feels controversial to recommend a product in a review that I have taken a somewhat negative approach to, however, I feel that over all, KABOOM Porcelain, Tile and Grout Restorer is a decent product available at a minimal price. Just don't believe everything you see on TV!
