Traveling in a Post Communist Country

Belarus is an adventure. It is not for the weak at heart, but if you have seen it all, see if you can handle the strange beauty of Belarus.

Great review,
I wanted to visiot Minsk when I did my Baltic trip (see my reviews) last year. But because obtaining Visas was a pain in the jacks to say the least; i put it off to another time. You have motivated me to visit.

Being half-Belarusian, I found this review to be really interesting. I want to visit there someday although even my relatives paint a very bleak portrait of the place.

Nicely done!

Thank you for a thoroughly informative review on Belarus. Your insights are first class, and your advice on taking the road less traveled in Eastern Europe seems both practical and pertinent.

Actually I wasn't given a choice on where I wanted to go. I applied to be a Missionary for my church, and they sent me to Lithuania. My mom cried because she thought it was near Bosnia, but I went anyway. When I got there they told me I would be a humanitarian aid worker in Belarus and sent me there. That is the short story of how I got there.

...did you get a nerve to go there; man! even me living close to Belarus never had a nerve to get out of the train while traveling from Russia to Ukraine. Ok, fine, I did get out somewhere in Gomel just because I wanted to buy some fruits or something like that, but that's it. Great job with the review (:

It's not the place for some, however I would go back in a heartbeat.

I was thinking I could appreciate a trip like this at the beginning, but knew this would be too much for me by the time you finished. Good job!
