Quitting the Easy Way

The Bottom Line Try the pills-----they work
For a couple of years now, I've been after my husband to quit smoking. Since we both smoked, I felt the best thing was for both of us to quit. Last fall, he decided it was time. I was at the Drs. for a sinus infection and mentioned to her that we were going to try to quit. She recommended the prescription pill Zyban and gave me the prescription. My husband went to her and got a prescription for Welbutrin. I took the pills for 6 weeks and he took his for 4 months since he was a heavier smoker than I was. As it stands now, they worked great-- as far as cigarette cravings go, we're doing great. We still have a problem with "what do I do with my hands now". I won't say it was a breeze, but it was a lot easier than I thought it could be. We've both smoked for 40 years or more. The best part of it was that our insurance picked up the prescription cost so all we had to pay was the co-pay of $13 per mo. I would recommend anyone wanting to quit-----see your Dr. If they feel you can take the pills, GO FOR IT! They aren't for everyone, my girlfriend can't take them because of an under-active thyroid. She has been trying to quit smoking for over a year and not having much luck with the patches. I really wish she could try the pills. I'm amazed at how well they work------we weren't even at each other's throats during the first few weeks!
