Ironic, isn't it? (Reply to this comment)
by eruditebarman
A newcomer applauding a seasoned veteran on a well thought-out, well formatted, intelligent, topical post. I just find that a bit amusing. I can certainly see the fantastic subtext in it too, being that you gave advice but also led by example. A post, properly done, providing information on how to post properly. Brilliant. Simultaneously subtle and obvious. That gets a gold star.

You had me laughing out loud... (Reply to this comment)
by skillz
...when you mentioned submitting a new review and getting back the "page timed-out" message. I'm an AOL user and I have had that happen to me twice.
Now I write all my reviews in MS Word before submitting and I've only lost ONE review that way so far. I finished writing the review and was in the process of proof reading when my wife accidentally bumped the plug out of the wall before I had saved a single word.
I'm a frequent saver now.
Great advice column by the way. I'll stick to making my own PB&J sandwiches.

Tom was right! (Reply to this comment)
by katybrighteyes
Tom, or sleeper54 below, gave me the link to this review just as he promised you. What a great help this is! I love the way you tell us, in no uncertain words, just what it takes to write a winning piece on Epinions.
I also love the analogy between your 6th grade PB&J lesson and being a good writer. What a tribute to this wonderful lady!
I'm going to go to your profile page now and read more of your reviews on Epinions writing. You've just been added to my WOT, too... you deserve it!
Great lesson. Thanks!

Mad PB&J (Reply to this comment)
by hillbilly_hank
The beautiful irony of it all is the fact that mere minutes ago I wet-napped my hands to remove all trace particles of strawberry jam from a quite tasty PB&J, complemented nicely by a chilled pint glass of frothy strawberry Quik. Mmmm..Quik. I see another review in my future! Thanks for the tips and trix, and KUTGW!

...I'm gonna try dropping this review URL in my comments to newbies in 'books', OK ??
So when you start getting hundreds of hits...it was me that done it, OK ??
See the example of it below.

Let me come clean by saying that I only happened upon this site due to a class assignment, but the more time I spend here, the more I like the whole public opinion ideology behind it. Though most of the reviews are pretty dull and stagnant, you have the rare gift of being able to bring an intimacy to your work that not only compliments, but enhances the overall effectiveness of your review. Adding a humorous air to the mix also works in keeping the reader's attention (which is ironically another one of the major weaknesses about this site). Well, I just wanted to leave my thoughts and share with you my high praises of your work. I hope you appreciate and value them as much as I do yours.

Although I'm not a big fan of PB&J I must admit that this review had me intrigued! It's nice to read a review of redundant information (no offense) with a spin that makes it interesting.

The one point that you make about epinions becoming flooded with opinions, well it has been a problem from the time I joined. It is much worse now. I don't even worry about getting hits from the just in section anymore. The only exception is essays, they sit out longer because most of the stuff posted is for products.
I have seen my opinion pushed out of the main just in section in a minute. That stuff about 10 min updates is not really accurate. Music reviews sit in the music section longer but not everyone hangs around there like I do.
It is sad when I look through pages of opinions and I only feel like clicking on 3 or 4 of them.
As more people discover Epinions this is only going to get worse. Well what can we do?

I was thinking of writing a review on this very topic. When I see the name Jeters Girl on a review, I just cringe. She has cranked out at least five today. Obviously she is doing it for the money and when you do that the site suffers. Excellent analogy.
