An ideal place for a honeymoon or a family vacation

Written: Jul 30 '03
Pros:Gourgeous facilities, free river taxi to skytrain, lavish buffet, wonderful rooms, beautifully landscaped. Great spa.
Cons:outside the center of town, pricey services for bangkok, no HBO.
The Bottom Line: A fabulous place...THE ideal place for a honeymoon, but business travelers might want a hotel closer to town.

This was based on my visit of March 2003

I got this hotel through priceline. The priceline service
claimed this was a 4 star hotel, and this is one of the few foreign hotels that a 4 star rating means the same as a 4 star rating in the US. This is probably one of the nicest
marriott locations Ive ever seen. Priceline got it for me for $50, Marriott has discount rates for this hotel of about $90-120. I would say its worth it at that price...but make sure they include the buffet breakfast.

Getting to the hotel- The hotel has a car, but you can probably get to the hotel for less money (1/3 to 1/2 as much) imply hiring a sedan at the airport. A taxi to the hotel costs more than to downtown because its on the other side of the river.

The hotel itself- The place is gourgeous, the staff is incredibly friendly. The hotel itself is set on the main river. The nicer rooms have a better view of the river.
One of the nice things about being on the river is that the air is much cleaner than downtown. A beautiful garden, a huge swimming pool that even looked like it belonged in a garden and a whirlpool spa. This hotel was planned from the start to look beautiful and it does.

The room-Very spacious, with a good sized bathtub , and free newspaper each day and a flower on my pillow at night. The bed was very big and very soft. The room had bedside light controls. The minibar was expensive for thailand...but considering that there is a minimarket right in the plaza connected to the hotel, you would be silly to get items out of the minibar anyway. As an example a coke in the minibar was 90 baht, but a coke from the store 100 feet from the hotel was 15 baht. Luxuriously appointed, flat screen tube tv, and artwork in the rooms. There was also a bathrobe.

The service- duh!(with my mouth hung open) All these people wai-ing to me, and saying good morning. The maids will make up your room anytime you want. Room service is 24 hours I believe. They have a massage service either in the spa or in the room

The Spa- A bit pricey for me, but reasonable for people on a larger budget and very reasonable compared to US spas.
I was tempted to take the 90 minute tandem massage that cost about $100 US(thats right two massage experts working on you at the same time). There were less expensive massages. I think a one hour regular massage was about $20 or $30

The resturants- The breakfast buffet was $6 , but it was a 50 item buffet with cooked to order, eggs, pancakes, french toast, and sliced roast pork. Many of the non-priceline rooms have the breakfast INCLUDED so shop accordingly. The price was worth it.

SPECIAL NOTE: This place has 10 resturants IN THE HOTEL, and another 5 in the plaza connected to it. If your kids want fast food...dairy queen, mcdonalds are right in the plaza next door.

This hotel has a free river boat...but youll need it to get to the center of town. However it is a lovely boat that bypasses downtown traffic and takes you right to the skytrain. The only drawback is that the riverboat doesnt run 24 hours a day.

One other drawback-the hotel offered internet connection is not cheap, and there is no cheap net cafe nearby. HOWEVER...there are plenty in bangkok especially while you are out shopping.
