There is really no way to measure the ratio between musical fidelity and dollar value. If there was, the PSB Stratus Bronze would be one of the highest.
Technically speaking the Bronze is a standard 3 (2 & a half) way speaker. Using 2 6.5"treated felt woofers & a 1" aluminum & ferrofluid tweeter. The second woofer rolls off at 500Hz and the first carries on until 2000Hz making a fairly sensitive speaker. The tweeter is the real star on this speaker however.
The Bronze uses the same tweeter as its two larger (and more expensive) brothers, the Stratus Goldi and Stratus Silveri. The tweeter is one of the most overlooked components of mid-fi speakers and this is one of the best I've heard on ANY speaker. It is very smooth for an aluminum tweeter but maintains the accuracy that metal-dome tweeters were designed to achieve. This is very important for both music and Home Theatre.
The low-end reproductions is exemplary as well. As I mentioned above it is a very straight-forward design but PSB cut no corners in the production room; the bass is tight and well rounded. The low-end is not as full as its larger counterparts (esp. the Stratus Gold) but accommodates a small to medium room excellently and it completely avoids the muddy aspect that many 3 way speakers fall into.
For Home Theatre purposes a subwoofer is necessary.
If you are looking for a High End pair of speakers but don't want to spend overly much, definitely give these a listen - you'll be amazed at the sound and price. Typically these speakers should be used in small to medium rooms with normal ceiling height. They are bi-wirable and should be set up as such.
They are available in Black ash, Cherrywood & High-Gloss black (I recommend the latter).
I tested this speaker on a Yamaha RXV1000 and a Denon DRA685. Both with IXOS 6003 Geometry wire (single wired). The Yamaha was a better match, the Denon was too muted.
