Pros: Distinctive styling, acceleration, handling, more refined and luxurious with the 2004 refinements
Cons: A bit less fun for 2004 (except CTSv), price keeps going up; CTSv shifter, ride

Gotta say, I wanted to see what someone had to write about the car I have, and that was an excellent job.

I also have the 2003 model and can report it still looks and feels new, 56,000 miles. Not a single problem, never been in the shop other than for routine maintenance. I even got a free set of new tires from Cadillac - the originals had a slight defect (on the inside wall of the tire), that was not safety related but Cadillac decided to replace the tires anyway. Did you get in on this? Anyhow I waited until I had about 30,000 miles on the original set and then went in and got a completely new set of Eagel GT's at no cost! Just another reason I have felt great about this car.

Only kicker is that parts are pricey. Oil filter, brake linings/rotors, etc. Some shock value there.

My 2003 CTS just passed the 50,000 KM mark, and at 2 years old still feels just like new. Having owned lots of cars in the past ... this is the first one that every day seems just like the day I drove out of the dealership. The car is still very tight and responsive, and I can't believe 2 years have passed since I bought it. And I still love the styling. People continue to comment what a good looking car it is, inside and out. Its an awesome car even with a bit of age !!

About the Mercedes comparison, you wrote, This is not necessarily a bad thing. The Benz's innovative suspension and braking systems have been met with more criticism than acclaim.

Did you mean this was not necessarily a good thing for the Mercedes?

The only problem with getting a CTS with stick now is you can't get the 3.6 and the 2005 will also have an upgraded interior. I was less than blown away by the 3.2 with stick, even though I had no issues with it with the slushbox.

Thanks for the great review! I finally got a chance to drive a standard version of the CTS. I hope to get one with the Sport package and nothing else, but, like Jimbo, I have to cut a good deal in order to sell it to the CFO (wife).
Even without the Sport pkg., the car is very tight and refined at the same time. I'm hooked! Getting back into my Tiburon after this drive, I could really begin to justify spending over $10K more for a CTS.

I read and rated your review and agree with the other post - fantastic, very detailed and informative, piece of work. I drove the car this weekend. The car is everything I'd hope for and more.... now all I have to do is convince my wife that we "need" this car.

Mike,
That has to be one of the best reviews I've read yet on the CTS including all the ones from major magazines. I almost feel as if I had driven it myself! Kudos to your amazing detail. And kudos to GM for finally building a worthy sports/luxury sedan. Keep up the good work :-)
