Priceline.Com Hotels Review
Great Savings, Easy To Use
Introduction
I wanted to spend a weekend in a New York City hotel, and searched all the travel web sites looking for a good hotel room for the July 4th Holiday weekend. Hotel rooms in Manhattan are very expensive. Nothing was available in a 4 or 5 star hotel below $ 130 to $150 per night. That was just too much money. My wife suggested that we try Priceline.Com. We had never tried it, but had seen their advertisements. I was very skeptical at first, not knowing what to expect. The thought of bidding blindly for a hotel room worried me.
Unknown Variables
Where is the hotel located? We had tickets to a Broadway show, and needed something reasonably close.
What kind of room was available? We wanted a higher class room.
Price? What was a reasonable offer that they would accept?
Bidding Process
We finally decided to take a chance and place a bid. You need to fill out the new member questionnaire first, then start your bidding. Membership is free to join. Then choose the area and amount of stars you would like to bid on. The quality of room is rated as 1 to 5 stars. We chose Manhattan Midtown East and 4 stars. We started our bid at $ 80.00 and with a 4 star rating. In about a minute our answer came back as rejected. We then expanded our bid to include Manhattan Midtown East and Manhattan Midtown West, and raised the bid to $ 85.00.
Bid Accepted
We received a quick answer and this time we were accepted. The hotel that they chose was the Grand Hyatt located on 42nd Street and Lexington Ave., the price was $ 85.00.
Was This A Great Deal?
Absolutely! The Hyatt web site lists that same room as we received on Priceline.Com as being $ 170.00 per night, and other travel web sites couldnt come close to the price we were paying. The room we received was a luxury room with one queen size bed. And more important, it was only a few blocks from where the Broadway show was located.
It ended up being a great location, next to Grand Central Station, very accessible to all subways, buses and restaurants.
Summary
Im very happy with our first experience. I give it 5 stars! I would definitely use Priceline.Com again.
