The Bottom Line A vet who is in the business only for the money is not the kind of vet that I am looking for.
This opinion on choosing the right vet for your dog is going to be based on a situation that just occured almost 3 weeks ago now. My male dog is a pittbull lab mix with strong pittbull features all except for aggression. He shows no aggression unless a toy or food is involved. His brother was over about 3 weeks ago and we walked up in the woods. They ended up finding gross enough a deer leg.Well this caused a huge problem and before long his brother was locked on his leg. After we managed to break the 2 up I rushed my dog home because a little bit of blood was dribbling from his leg. I put him in the tub and shaved the leg and then found he had a hole about the size of a quarter not to mention many other bite marks on this inside of his thigh as well. I cleaned it up and bandaged him but he was in some horrid pain. Around 3 am which was 6 hours later I decided I had to take him to the vet. It's not that I wasn't going to but I had scheduled an appointment for the morning. So I call and I get the answering service. They tell us that it is not actually our vet on call but some other guy that we never met. We had to meet him at a totally different office about 45 minutes away and we also basically had to beg him to look at my dog who's leg was bleeding profusely. So after his I will be there in about and hour or as soon as I can pull my lazy butt out of bed speech, we loaded my poor injured baby into the car and drove to the office. We waited another 30 minutes for this so called emergency vet to take his time while my dog sat moping and whining in the back seat. When he finally got there he made sure to tell us that there was going to be an extra 50 dollar charge on top of the 30 dollar office visit. I just said listen I don't care just fix my dog. I also asked him if I could give him 50 dollars for 3 weeks. He agreed reluctantly. So Riley(my male dog) ended up with 4 stitches and a pain killer and antibiotic. The visit was totaled at 148 dollars. I had to pick him up the next day. I go in and they make me sign this paper that says I will pay them in 1 week or they will sue me for the money. I was appaled. I wanted to thank them for helping me with my dog but I was at a loss for words. I signed the paper and took my dog home. When I went in to pay them I told them of some swelling Riley had on the opposite side of where the stitches were and they said they couldn't help me without and appointment and there would also be another office charge. I wanted to cry because it is pretty sad that they took an animals life and put a dollar amount on it. I told them politely No thank you I will take him to his regular vet from now on who cares about him and then I left. I know I took this opinion and turned into a time to vent but I just want to add that no matter what make sure you choose a vet that is there for the animals. Choose one that will love your animal and one that is there only for them. I understand that they need to be payed but that should definately not there main goal for being a vet. My normal vet is so sweet and so kind when it comes to my animals and I only wish he was on call that night. I am not looking for the cheapest vet nor the closest one to me I am just looking for one that cares and that is my advice to anyone look for one that cares about your animal. |
