Pros:Cleanliness, pool, price, location
Cons:Heat/air not working properly
The Bottom Line: La Quinta provides the bare bones for a well-rested stay affordably without sacrificing safety.

I was reluctant to try a new hotel chain, especially after hearing traveler horror stories, but I am happy that we stayed at La Quinta Inn last summer. We were able to get a special rate at $69 a night. We asked for a room not on ground level (because I've heard that it's worse for crime) and was given a room on the second level near the pool. This was great, as I have two children who love the water.

Even though we were on second floor, I rarely heard footsteps, so the room must have been fairly well insulated. The sinks, toilet and shower were in great working order. We also had the option at additional cost, to use the game system or movies with the cable TV. We did not use either, as we were always on the go. The only minus was the air, as it didn't get very cold at all.

The continental breakfast was very acceptable. Originally, we were going to eat at Dunkin Donuts ( a doughnut shop)since we don't have one near our home, but we decided to buy a box to go on the way home instead. The continental breakfast at La Quinta included several juices, muffins, coffee, and fresh fruit.

Check-in and out were also very easy. Since we had checked in with our credit card, checkout was very quick. The hotel clerk was very hospital and made sure that we had a great stay. I told her that we did.

For those who are budget-minded, I can recommend http://www.travelnow.com. We used this website last year several times with success to get good rooms and deals. It's also nice that the hotel has prior records of who you are, what you'd like and expect, and know that you are a legitimate paying customer.

Also, we enjoyed the location. We were right in the middle of a huge shopping area, and was able to eat, find recreation and go bargain hunting easily 5+ miles either way. I originally was worried about safety, but the keyless lock and additional door lock on the inside helped alleviate extra fears. Frankly, I think it's good for everyone to be a little scared, if it makes a person be more cautious and safety-aware.

Try La Quinta if you like a nice, clean hotel, or have children in tow. It's not extra fancy, but if your main goal is to sleep/live comfortably, it's a great option.
