Which one should I buy? by opinionated3 | Mar 16 '01 I think everyone should checkout the different model inkjet printers available before you make the final purchase. With vast selection to choose from a knowledge will go along way. Return to opinion

Disagree with "opinionated3" (Reply to this comment)

Having read the "kidquick" article on Photo Printers, believe "opinionated3" should check out her math (paragraph 11 in this Epinions addition). Seems that the DPI (ink droplets per inch) battle is won by Canons S800 when one considers it produces 2.88 million ink droplets to Epson's (best) @ 2.07 million per inch.
Read "kidquick's - You'll Never Go To The PhotoMat Again...Provided........"
This is all rather baffling to a intermediate
second time buyer but, since my main interest is a photo printer, it looks as if the Canon S800 is superior to anything Epson makes for that purpose.
That's the way we see it. Hope "kidquick" is right because we plan to buy the Canon S800.

Only Epson? (Reply to this comment)

Why do you only compare Epson printers? It is easy to compare printers of the same company; try to branch out a little bit.

Great review Jon (Reply to this comment)

Here I thought you were supposed to buy a printer
merely based on what you could afford and what
looked cute with your decor.
Seriously, you brought up some
important considerations for all.
Thank you.

Good review (Reply to this comment)

Thought you might like to know the reason Epson printers look so good in print is the way they print. Most inkjets use heat to force the ink out and over a short period of time the heads begin to wear. Even though the heads are on the ink cartridges, they usually begin to wear before the cartridge is empty.
Epson uses a different method, which does not use heat at all and the print heads are not on the ink cartridges. The heads last a very long time, in fact I have not seen one replaced yet in my two years as a technician.

highest resolution... (Reply to this comment)
by corona13
Just wanted to point out that the highest dpi I've seen out there is 2400x1200, on HP and Lexmark inkjet printers. I know that the Epson's numbers look higher, but just multiply it out, and you'll see. Looks like you're an Epson fan. I personally prefer Canon or HP. =)
