Due to the fact that this is my first laptop, I am very impressed with the HP 4430us bought at Best Buys. Purchased and received a total of $250 in rebates, so the final price is about $1,050. I must admit, I wanted a laptop, I did not NEED a laptop, so it is more of a toy for me.
I left the house doing hours of research and I was set to buy a P-4 (no exceptions) and was leaning toward the Toshiba. After spending over 1 hour with a very patient salesgirl (yes a BEST BUY employee for over 1 hour and could not help enough) she really talked me out of the P-4 chip. This puter has an "AMD XP" processor. To make a long story short, the equivelent Toshiba was about $300 more and no real advantages that I can see. I am basically surfing/e-mailing and minor gaming and I am very very happy.
I know nothing about setting up a network, but I bought a wireless router and hooked it up with really no problem, then opened the laptop and there it is saying I have a network connection (and I didn't have to set up a thing), I was and still am amazed (remember, this is my first laptop). I am sure there are things "pros" do not like, but for a hobbist and someone that does not really want to set up a desktop unit, I find this puter more than fine!!!!
I was really unsure and uneasy about buying other than a P-4 chip, but to be completely honest, I see no difference at all (not that I know what to look for either).
LOVE IT, recommend it, in fact I have and 3 friends purchased and all are 1st timers and VERY HAPPY!!!
Go for it, I see nothing to lose.
Oh, as for customer support, I have called twice (my mistakes, not the puters) and although it took alittle to get a person on the phone, they were VERY HELPFUL and FRIENDLY!!!!! I was expecting alot less!!
