Let me start out by saying, I'm not brand new to Epinions, but I haven't been here forever. When I joined in November, I was overwhelmed by this idea- I would be able to write MY opinion and share with other people? Earning a little bit of extra money along the way was just an added bonus.
The sense of community was strong, which is definately what hooked me. Now it has a much more business oriented feel to it. With such growth, it is to be expected, it just would have been nice if we could have had that same 'feel' to the website.
Each category was easy to sift through, there was very little that I couldn't find easily. Now, I have to search for just about everything- things have been moved around so much it's hard to figure out where some things are.
You had the option of email alerts, I liked being notified when someone added a comment to one of my opinions, now I feel that I check each of my most recent 10 times a day because I don't want anyone to feel as if their comment wasn't seen or unappreciated- that's just me.
Eroyalties credits were updated in real-time, which I thought was a little wasteful... all of the 'energy' that went towards keeping up with your earnings is definately better spent in keeping the site as a whole running faster.
Not knowing when things such as the email alerts, content partner sites and a 'refer a friend' program will return is a little frustrating. Luckily the number of bugs have gone down drastically.
Additions to the site such as being able to save the draft of your opinion, price comparisons, being able to rate products even if you don't write a review and a faster search engine were all wonderful, much needed, additions.
I have to admit, my feeling in the beginning of the new Epinions was 'it wasn't broke, but they fixed it anyways' ... I realize growth changes things, I'd always hoped things would have gone a little more smoothly. Since I've had more time to get to know my way around again, and now that things are finally falling back into place to a degree, Epinions is once again becoming a great place to share your opinion.
