I would like to have emailed netKat directly yet saw no way to do that.... I am new to epinions.
I have a credit card dispute that I will initiate soon. Here is the story.
On Sept 27, '02, I went to this website:
www.learningescapes.com
and registered for a hike for Oct 6. This is a strenuous hike of 7.2 miles in Shenandoah National Park on Old Rag Mountain in and has sections that are very close to the edge of the mountain (I learned these details from doing a broad Internet search on Old Rag after I signed up). Since signing up for this I've fainted twice at home for no apparent reason. I now am not feeling at all comfortable in going on this all day hike. I called Learning Escapes on Oct. 1st and told them of my health concerns and asked them to cancel my reservation and refund/credit my VISA card. I spoke to one of the two owners. She told me that their system of payment does not allow for them to credit back a charge card that has been debited--it is all done on the Internet and they have no involvement with it.
They do have a refund policy posted on their site but it is beneath the fold on their home page and I never noticed it until someone pointed it out to me after I'd registered. It does say no refunds for any reason are given.
I want to dispute this and have asked CHASE to send me their form for disputes. I would like to know what others reading this think my chances of winning this dispute are.
I've had this card for many years and maintain a zero balance owed--I pay the full bill upon receipt.I have only once had a dispute with this card and it was settled in my favor.
The cost of this hike is $50.00. Thank you.

Glad you are finding this helpful. Finance is not the most widely read category on Epinions, but money is sure something we all have in common.

Coincidentally, I just noticed a double charge on one of my credit card statements this month from an online casino. Naughty, naughty. Here goes the dispute process again. :)

I'm sure you're review will help someone tremendously! My card # was once stolen by hackers, so I understand what can happen. Happily for me I took care of it in time.

I've been dealing with an Internet merchant (stamps.com) that continues to charge my credit card each month despite the fact that I cancelled the account last year! Discover card immediately issued a chargeback, but I never sent in a letter so I'm feeling a little uneasy now. Oops. Thanks for the very helpful advice!

Sincerely,
Anna

This is the one area I've never had any problems with (Reply to this comment)

Interesting. I've had cards where I never got statements which resulted in all kinds of problems and other somewhat nasty issues/problems with my issuers, but disputed charges have always been smooth and mostly effortless.

If it's a double charge it's always been taken care of over the phone. If it's a mischarge or an item the store refused to take back even though it was defective, it's been credited after sending in the form. That is one of the few things that's always worked correctly with my credit cards and the main reason I charge most of my purchases. I guess I'm lucky.

This has to be the most complete information I have ever read, including what the credit card companies send out! Thank you so much!

...and obviously the voice of inside and outside experience. If I ever have to dispute a charge, I'm going to refer back to this. A tip of the hat.
